CD27 distinguishes two phases in bone marrow infiltration of splenic marginal zone lymphoma.

2004

Aims:  To investigate CD27 expression in splenic marginal zone lymphoma (SMZL), an indolent low-grade B-cell lymphoma with constant involvement of the bone marrow, especially with an intrasinusoidal pattern. It is not clear if the neoplastic clone is composed of virgin or somatically mutated B cells. CD27 is reported to be a hallmark of memory B cells. Methods and results:  We evaluated 64 bone marrow biopsy specimens (BMBs) from 36 patients with SMZL for the expression of CD27. For comparison, splenectomy specimens of patients with traumatic splenic rupture or with SMZL were used. All BMBs showed lymphomatous infiltration. When located in the marrow sinusoids, neoplastic cells were CD27– i…

MYD88 L265P mutation and interleukin‐10 detection in cerebrospinal fluid are highly specific discriminating markers in patients with primary central …

2021

Reliable biomarkers are needed to avoid diagnostic delay and its devastating effects in patients with primary central nervous system (CNS) lymphoma (PCNSL). We analysed the discriminating sensitivity and specificity of myeloid differentiation primary response (88) (MYD88) L265P mutation (mut-MYD88) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of both patients with newly diagnosed (n = 36) and relapsed (n = 27) PCNSL and 162 controls (118 CNS disorders and 44 extra-CNS lymphomas). The concordance of MYD88 mutational status between tumour tissue and CSF sample and the source of ILs in PCNSL tissues were also investigated. Mut-MYD88 was assessed by TaqMan-based polymerase chain reac…

Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasonography With SonoVue

2009

Objective. We investigated the ability of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography with SonoVue (Bracco SpA, Milan, Italy), a sulfur hexafluoride microbubble contrast agent, to reveal differences between benign and malignant focal splenic lesions. Methods. In a prospective study we investigated 35 lesions in 35 patients (24 male and 11 female; mean age ± SD, 54 ± 15 years) with focal splenic lesions detected by B-mode ultrasonography. After intravenous injection of 1.2 to 2.4 mL of SonoVue, the spleen was examined continuously for 3 minutes using low–mechanical index ultrasonography with contrastspecific software. The final diagnosis was established by histologic examination, computed tomography, …

The spontaneous burst activity of peripheral blood monocytes in patients with acute polyradiculoneuritis, lymphocytic meningoencephalitis, and multip…

1986

Abstract The course of the spontaneous burst activity (BA) of peripheral blood monocytes was examined in patients with acute polyradiculoneuritis (PN), lymphocytic meningoencephalitis (LE), and multiple sclerosis (MS) and the BA was compared with the clinical course. In 4 patients with postinfectious acute PN the BA was significantly increased up to values around 60000 counts/10 s. The BA and the clinical course were closely correlated in these patients (mean of r = 0.83). In 4 patients with lymphocytic LE the BA initially was moderately increased to values between 4000 and 5000 counts/10 s and showed again a very close correlation with the clinical course (mean of r = 0.99) In 13 MS patien…

The behaviour of OKT3-, OKT4- and OKT8-positive cells during phases of elevated spontaneous chemiluminescence activity (CL-A) in multiple sclerosis p…

1987

The chemiluminescence activity (CL-A; synonym = burst activity, BA) and the percentage of OKT3-, OKT4- and OKT8-positive peripheral blood cells were serially examined in four control persons and in eight patients with multiple sclerosis. When the OKT values obtained in phases of increased CL-A (clinical remission) were compared with those of the control group, the percentage of OKT3-positive cells was reduced (P = 0.014), and that of OKT4-positive cells increased (P = 0.014); there were no significant changes in the percentage of OKT8-positive cells (P = 0.171). After the CL-A had returned to normal values, the OKT4-positive cells remained elevated (P = 0.029), whereas the OKT3- (P = 0.342)…

Mammary Analogue Secretory Carcinoma (MASC) of salivary gland in four Mexican patients.

2014

The Clinco-pathological, immunohistochemical and molecular findings of four cases of Mammary Analogue Secretory Carcinoma (MASC) of salivary glands found in Mexico are described. The cases were extracted from 253 salivary gland tumors from a single institution in Mexico City. The 85 candidates for initial selection were: low grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) (N=70 ), acinic cell cancinoma (AciCC) (N=14), papillary cystadenocarcinoma (N=1), and adenocarcinoma NOS (N=0). Tumors with some histological features consistent with MASC (N= 17, 6.7%) were studied by immunohistochemistry for mammaglobin, STAT5, and S-100 protein and four cases were positive (1.5%), thus the diagnosis of MASC was e…

Changes in dynamics of excess mortality rates and net survival after diagnosis of follicular lymphoma or diff use large B-cell lymphoma: comparison b…

2015

Summary Background Since 2001, the World Health Organization classification of tumours of haematopoietic and lymphoid tissues and the International Classification of Diseases for Oncology (third edition) have improved data collection for lymphoma subtypes in most European cancer registries and allowed reporting on the major non-Hodgkin lymphoma subtypes. Treatment of non-Hodgkin lymphoma has changed profoundly, benefiting patients with follicular lymphoma or diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. We aimed to compare dynamics of cancer mortality in patients with follicular lymphoma or diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in five large European areas using data for survival from the largest number of collab…

CXCR3 chemokine receptor immunoreactivity in primary cutaneous malignant melanoma: correlation with clinicopathological prognostic factors.

2007

A role for CXCR3, the receptor for chemokines Mig, IP-10 and interferon-inducible T cell alpha-chemoattractant, in tumour cell migration during melanoma progression has been proposed. To analyse CXCR3 expression in primary cutaneous malignant melanomas and its comparison with clinicopathological and prognostic factors.A retrospective immunohistochemical study was carried out on formalin-fixed paraffin-wax-embedded sections from 82 patients with primary invasive cutaneous melanomas, with a monoclonal antibody to CXCR3 (clone 49801.111; RD Systems). Immunoreactivity was semiquantitatively evaluated: labelling intensity (0, absent; 1, weak; 2, moderate; 3, strong) multiplied by the percentage o…

Cutaneous Lymphadenoma Is a Distinct Trichoblastoma-like Lymphoepithelial Tumor With Diffuse Androgen Receptor Immunoreactivity, Notch1 Ligand in Ree…

2021

The term "cutaneous lymphadenoma" was coined in this journal for an unusual lymphoepithelial cutaneous adnexal neoplasm, possibly with immature pilosebaceous differentiation. Some authors further proposed that cutaneous lymphadenoma was an adamantinoid trichoblastoma. However, although a hair follicle differentiation is widely accepted, the fact that this is a lymphoepithelial tumor is not appropriately explained by the trichoblastoma hypothesis. Our goal was to further clarify the phenotypic and genotypic features of cutaneous lymphadenoma in a series of 11 cases. Histologically, a lobular architecture surrounded by a dense fibrous stroma was present in all cases. The lobules were composed…

SDHB Expression in Warthin's Tumour

2011

Abstract Introduction Succinic dehydrogenase subunit B (SDHB) is an enzyme belonging to the mitochondrial complex II. The aim of this study is to analyse SDHB expression in a series of Warthin's tumours, studying its relationship with oncocytic changes, constantly present in this form of tumour. Material and methods In resection tumour specimens from a series of ten Warthin's tumours (all from the parotid gland), immunohistochemical expression of SDHB was analysed using a commercially available monoclonal antibody. Results The Warthin's tumours studied affected 10 men (mean age: 64.2 yrs, range 40–80), all with smoking habits, and 2 with metachronous bilateral involvement. Two patients pres…
