Langerhans cells (LCs) are antigen-presenting cells in the epidermis whose roles in antigen-specific immune regulation remain incompletely understood. Desmoglein 3 (Dsg3) is a keratinocyte cell-cell adhesion molecule critical for epidermal integrity and an autoantigen in the autoimmune blistering disease pemphigus. Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a fatal disease with a very poor 5-year survival rate. alpha-Enolase is a glycolytic enzyme that also acts as a surface plasminogen receptor. We find that it is overexpressed in PDAC and present on the cell surface of PDAC cell lines. The clinical correlation of its expression with tumor status has been reported for lung and hepatocellular carcinoma. Heat-stable antigen (HSA), expressed by various antigen-presenting cells (APC), has been described as a costimulatory molecule for CD4+ T cells. Recently, we observed that HSA also serves as an important costimulatory molecule on epidermal Langerhans cells (LC). During these studies, low levels of HSA staining were also detected on normal murine keratinocytes (KC). Effects of ultraviolet light on immune parameters of the roach

Ultraviolet B radiation penetrates into water and can affect fish health and the immune system, as is the case with mammals. Teleost fish, the roach, were exposed to UVB irradiation in aquariums and a panel of immune parameters was determined. In addition to altered blood picture and respiratory burst by blood leukocytes, changes were noted also in major lymphatic organs. Respiratory burst and natural cytotoxicity activity of head kidney granulocytes and mitogen-activated proliferation of splenic lymphocytes were suppressed.
