Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on pyrkiä ymmärtämään lähisuhdeväkivaltaan liittyviä haasteita ammattilaisten näkökulmasta. Tutkimukseni kohdistuu siihen, minkälaisia esteitä lähisuhdeväkivaltaa työssään kohdanneet ammattilaiset kertovat liittyvän lähisuhdeväkivalta-aiheen puheeksi ottamiseen. Tutkimuksessani selvitin puheeksi ottamisen vaikeutta ja etsin ammattilaisten tapoja selittää tätä. Valitsemaani aihetta perustelen sillä, että tätä näkökulmaa ei ole mielestäni riittävästi aiemmin tutkittu. Attitudes and motivation in the treatment of IPV : a case study of two intimately violent men

This case study used qualitative content analysis to examine the cases of two intimately violent men. Both participated in a group intervention but experienced dramatically different outcomes. In the case of "Henri", the intervention was especially successful, but in the case of "Mikael" it was unsuccessful. The data of this study consisted of the video tapes of the men’s therapy sessions, and of the interviews of their spouses. Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin mitkä tekijät auttavat terveydenhuollon työntekijöitä puuttumaan lähisuhdeväkivaltaan. Kiinnostus kohdistui erityisesti siihen, minkä varassa työntekijät rakentavat puuttumista mahdollistavaa puhetta. Analyysissa lähtökohtana oli sosiaalisesti jaettu tieto, eli se, kuinka ihmiset yhdessä tulkitsevat ja rakentavat sosiaalisia ilmiöitä ja niiden merkityksiä. Social and health care professionals' views on responsible agency in the process of ending intimate partner violence

This article examines social and health care professionals’ views, based on their encounters with both victims and perpetrators, on the division of responsibility in the process of ending intimate partner violence. Applying discourse analysis to focus group discussions with a total of 45 professionals on solutions to the problem, several positions of responsible agency in which professionals place themselves and their clients are identified. The results suggest that one key to understanding the complexities involved in violence intervention lies in a more adequate theorization of the temporal and intersubjective dimensions of the process of assigning responsibility for the problem.
Positions constructed for a female therapist in male batterers' treatment group

How the gender of the therapist affects the treatment of intimately violent men has been little researched. In this study we examined the positions that batterers construct for a female therapist in batterers' group treatment. The data consisted of five videotaped therapy groups for male batterers. Three positions of a woman were constructed: woman in general; woman as spouse and woman personally as herself. These positions were often based on a constructed difference between men and women. The female therapist repositioned herself to diminish the difference constructed between the genders and to make fear of the spouse visible. peerReviewed
Agentive responsibility and possibilities of conjoined therapy for intimate relationship violence

This thesis is about how to provide conjoined therapy to couples suffering from intimate partner violence (IPV). The discourse analysis concentrated on the narrations produced in therapy and how both the therapists and customers position themselves responsibly thus with strong agency. The results suggest an array of supportive narrative practises to enhance agency and provide through psychoeducation, empowering and perspective challenging toward more individual sense of agency in speech about one’s relation to the relationship as well as to the theme of violence.
Lähisuhdeväkivallan tunnistaminen erikoissairaanhoidossa

Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää potilaiden lähisuhdeväkivaltakokemusten yleisyyttä, koetun väkivallan muotoja ja toistuvuutta sekä hoidontarvetta. Tutkimus toteutettiin Keski-Suomen keskussairaalan synnytysyksikössä, päivystysalueella sekä psykiatrisessa sairaalassa. Tutkimukseen osallistui yhteensä 530 potilasta. Projektin pilottiyksiköiden hoitohenkilökunta käytti potilaiden lähisuhdeväkivaltakokemusten ja niiden aiheuttaman hoidontarpeen selvittämiseksi suodatin- ja kartoituskysymyslomaketta. Kyselyn aikainen tai aiempi lähisuhdeväkivalta vaikutti potilaan oman arvion mukaan kielteisesti hänen hyvinvointiinsa ja elämänhallintaansa 10,5 %:lla synnytysyksikön, 31,7 %:lla psykiatris…
