This article addresses the relationship between economics and biology from the specific methodological perspective of concept transfers. To understand in what way biological theories may prove useful for the study of economic problems, we define, with reference to the work of some philosophers of science, a methodological tool which we call the "metaphorical model". This instrument is then used to elucidate some aspects of Becker's model on altruism as well as the reasons why his analysis has not been considered in the end to be fully convincing or relevant.

Cet article réexamine le lien, de prime abord évident, entre l’écart qui caractérise la métaphore et son expressivité. Pour cela il s’appuie sur un corpus pour le moins original en la matière: la littérature nonsense de Lewis Carroll. On parle en effet le plus souvent de la métaphore en termes d’écart: écart de la signification au sens mais aussi écart par rapport à la norme, à l’usage linguistique, aux formes non-marquées. Media diversification and information superhighways that have become faster and faster have boosted the circulation of economic terms in the popular press, along with the interaction between editorial contents targeted at the general population, which are similar in nature. This twin phenomenon of circulation and interaction was highlighted in a contrastive study of the way the German and the French press managed the euro crisis between 2011 and 2013: articles devoted to the debt of countries that are going through hard economic times require expert knowledge, but also resort to popularization strategies that show multi-level interdiscursivity.
