Šā darba mērķis bija apskatīt Hartinga strupastes Microtus hartingi diverģences pakāpi, izmantojot eksperimentālās hibridizācijas metodi un hibrīdu uzvedības raksturu atklātā lauka testā. Kaut gan divu pasugu hibridizācijas rezultātā tika iegūta dzīvotspējīga un auglīga F1 paaudze, nākamajā krustošanā, tai skaitā arī atgriezeniskajā, sāka izpausties tēviņu sterilitāte un pēcnācēju augsta mirstība. Hibrīdu sēkliniekiem un to piedēkļiem bija mazāka masa, samazināts spermatozoīdu saturs un neliels skaits kustīgu spermatozoīdu, kas liecina par samazinātu spermatoģenēzi.
