One of the most outstanding figures of music criticism in the Spanish Restoration was José María Esperanza y Sola (1834-1905), active for thirty years, from the late 1860s until the end of the century. During this period, Esperanza collaborated in different periodical publications and, particularly, “La Ilustración Española y Americana”, from whose pages he informed about the most important musical events celebrated in Madrid, judged according to a conservative aesthetic criterion, opposed to any novelty that infringe the traditional music system. Su éxito se debe, sobre todo, a la adaptación al cine del concepto de 'universo compartido', lo que permite mostrar personajes y situaciones interrelacionadas. Ello ofrece la opción de conectar con diversas promociones de alumnos, puesto que se trata de personajes presentes en los cines durante las últimas dos décadas. El presente artículo analiza los rasgos característicos de la obra lírica del maestro José Serrano Simeón, probablemente el compositor de zarzuelas más relevante del siglo XX, así como las opiniones que la crítica especializada de la época llevó a cabo sobre su insigne producción. La riqueza melódica de sus obras, que tenía su origen en la música popular española, la variedad rítmica de las mismas y su sencilla y eficaz instrumentación son tan sólo algunos de los rasgos más representativos de su magna obra.
Estudiantes de Música del Máster de Profesor de Educación Secundaria: creencias, expectativas y valoración de la distribución de créditos

En este estudio cuantitativo de carácter descriptivo se investigan las creencias de 31 estudiantes de la especialidad de Música del Máster de Profesor de Educación Secundaria de la Universitat de València, sus expectativas al cursar este tipo de formación, su valoración de la distribución de los créditos de las asignaturas que lo conforman y diferencias en base al género. Los resultados presentan sus consideraciones para realizar este Máster, su opinión sobre la función docente, la metodología y contenidos que desarrollarán en futuras clases, las expectativas y la valoración de los créditos de las asignaturas del Máster, entre otros.

Music therapists have described the importance of working collaboratively with family members in various populations throughout the history of the profession. Despite the growing amount of literature, not enough is known regarding the scope of theoretical perspectives and therapeutic approaches that guide family centered music therapy. The aim of this international survey study was to better understand the professional perspectives and approaches of music therapists who work with families around the world. Vicente Ripollés Pérez (1867-1943) fue unos de los maestros de capilla españoles más interesantes entre los siglos XIX y XX; destacó como compositor, director, musicólogo y por su liderazgo en el movimiento cecilianista. Llegó a ser nombrado canónigo de la Catedral de Valencia y fue maestro de capilla en las catedrales de Tortosa, Sevilla y el Real Colegio de Corpus Christi en Valencia. A esta última institución legó su archivo y biblioteca que han sido catalogados recientemente y que contienen más de ochocientos do-cumentos. This study investigates the correlations between theories of intense emotional experiences and production techniques used in the electronic dance music (EDM) sections “build-up” and “drop”, which are designed to build tension and create a heightened emotional intensity among clubbers. This is done by descriptive and interpretive music analysis, where spectrograms and a schematic model visually represent the dominant production techniques. Pleasurable and Intersubjectively Embodied Experiences of Electronic Dance Music

How do dancers engage with electronic dance music (EDM) when dancing? This paper reports on an empirical study of dancers' pleasurable engagement with three structural properties of EDM: (1) breakdown, (2) build-up, and (3) drop. Sixteen participants danced to a DJ mix in a club-like environment, and the group’s bodily activity was recorded with an infrared, marker-based motion capture system. After they danced, the subjects filled out questionnaires about the pleasure they experienced and their relative desire to move while dancing. According to previous survey studies both nostalgia and longing are among the most commonly evoked emotions by music (Juslin, 2011). The 10th annual International Conference of Students of Systematic Musicology (SysMus) took place on September 13–15, 2017, at Queen Mary University of London (UoL). The SysMus series has established itself as an international, student-run conference series aimed at introducing graduate students to networking and discussing their work in an academic conference environment.
