Dual Substituent Parameter Modeling of Theoretical, NMR and IR Spectral Data of 5-Substituted Indole-2,3-diones

2002

Correlations of AM1 and PM3 theoretical data, 13C-NMR substituent chemical shifts (13C-SCS) and IR carbonyl group wave numbers [ν(C3â•ÂO)] were studied using dual substituent parameter (DSP) models for 5-substituted indole-2,3-diones. For the C7 atom a reverse substituent effect attributed to extended À-polarization was observed. On the other hand, the DSP approaches for the C3 atom showed normal substituent effects with some contribution of reverse effect supported strongly by 13C-SCS correlations. In the ν(C3â•ÂO) and p(C3â•ÂO) DSP correlations the field effect contribution predominates over the resonance effect, which justifies the using of earlier suggested vibrational cou…

Does the addition of single joint exercises to a resistance training program improve changes in performance and anthropometric measures in untrained …

2018

The present study compared changes in muscle performance and anthropometric measures in young men performing resistance training (RT) programs composed of only multi joint (MJ) exercises, or with the addition of single joint (SJ) exercises (MJ+SJ). Twenty untrained men were randomized to MJ or MJ+SJ groups for 8 weeks. Both groups performed the same MJ exercises. The difference was that the MJ+SJ group added SJ exercises for upper and lower limbs. Participants were tested for 10 repetitions maximum (10RM), flexed arm circumference, and biceps and triceps skinfolds. Both groups significantly increased 10RM load for the bench press (MJ 38.5%, MJ+SJ 40.1%), elbow extension (MJ 28.7%, MJ+SJ 31.…

Integrated marketing communication as a business management tool in the context of sustainable development

2018

AbstractThe problem of nowadays is that consumers lack information on food products, their composition and quality, nutritional value, packaging, its impact on the human health and environment, reuse and recycling possibilities, etc. Integrated marketing communications (IMC) as a business management tool may not only draw the consumers’ attention and incite a purchase, but also provide information and serve as a facilitator of consumers’ knowledge and competence on products, their nutritional value, use and utilisation. The goal of the research is to assess the impact of IMC for sustainability upon demand at Latvian food retail chains and the impact of the use of IMC for sustainability upon…

Un sistema de indicadores para el seguimiento y evaluación de la gestión sostenible del patrimonio cultural

2013

This paper describes the general procedure followed to build a system of indicators for monitoring and evaluating the Strategy for Culture and Development of Spanish Cooperation. Taking the Sustainable Management of Cultural Heritage as a reference, in this study an approach is made to questions relative to: 1) the process of evaluating a list of indicators by a panel of experts using the Delphi technique, 2) the definition and calculation of a relative operational index, 3) the process of indicator selection, and lastly, 4) how the selected indicators were assigned to form part of the basic or strategic dimension on which the system is structured. En este trabajo se describe el procedimie…

Translocation Biosensors – Cellular System Integrators to Dissect CRM1-Dependent Nuclear Export by Chemicogenomics

2009

Fluorescent protein biosensors are powerful cellular systems biology tools for dissecting the complexity of cellular processes with high spatial and temporal resolution. As regulated nucleo-cytoplasmic transport is crucial for the modulation of numerous (patho)physiological cellular responses, a detailed understanding of its molecular mechanism would open up novel options for a rational manipulation of the cell. In contrast to genetic approaches, we here established and employed high-content cellular translocation biosensors applicable for dissecting nuclear export by chemicogenomics. A431 cell lines, stably expressing a translocation biosensor composed of glutathione S-transferase, GFP and…

Strategies to Target ADAM17 in Disease: From Its Discovery to the iRhom Revolution

2021

For decades, disintegrin and metalloproteinase 17 (ADAM17) has been the object of deep investigation. Since its discovery as the tumor necrosis factor convertase, it has been considered a major drug target, especially in the context of inflammatory diseases and cancer. Nevertheless, the development of drugs targeting ADAM17 has been harder than expected. This has generally been due to its multifunctionality, with over 80 different transmembrane proteins other than tumor necrosis factor α (TNF) being released by ADAM17, and its structural similarity to other metalloproteinases. This review provides an overview of the different roles of ADAM17 in disease and the effects of its ablation in a n…

The role of the styloid apophysis of the temporal bone in the biomechanics of the tongue, mandible, hyoid system: A case study

2020

Temporomandibular disorders are characterized by ear pain, tinnitus, difficulty in chewing, dysphagia and also dizziness, cervical limitation of range of movement (ROM) and other less common disorders. Numerous recent studies associate the presence of these signs and symptoms with an elongated styloid apophysis, as in the case of Eagle syndrome. The purpose of this clinical case is to support the thesis of a common syndrome that temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders with an elongated styloid process affirming the relationship between temporal bone, mandibule, hyoid bone and tongue. The patient was a 57-year-old woman who reported having ear algia and tinnitus all on the right side with di…

Attitudes and perceptions of faculty members in the process adopting innovation: The OpenCourseWare initiative at the University of Valencia, Spain

2014

The OpenCourseWare project, an open learning resource repository, was established at the University of Valencia between 2008 and2009. It initially consisted of only 10 subjects, none of which was in the field of Health Sciences. The objective of this research was toinvestigate the attitudes and perceptions of faculty members in the field of Health Sciences with regard to the project to identify strategies to increase its use and expand its coverage. We applied Rogers’ innovation-diffusion theory along with a qualitative approach using theoretical sampling, semi-structured interviews and open coding. The results indicate the existence of two categories of faculty members. In the first group,…

Estimación del impacto económico de los museos a través de las nuevas tecnologías de la información: el caso del museo Ene.Térmica

2015

It is increasingly necessary to emphasize the potential of culture as an engine for economic development and its ability to generateincome and create jobs. For this reason, this paper evaluates the economic impact of the Ene.térmica museum in the territory in which it is located, Ponferrada (Castilla y León Community, Spain). In order to achieve this aim, the estimation of the different types of effects needed to determine the impact of economic of the activities linked to the existence of Ene.Térmica is calculated by using the tool Impactrimonio, a web-based application that applies the Input-Output Tables methodology. The results show that due to both activities of the museum and demand f…

Multiple independent variants at the TERT locus are associated with telomere length and risks of breast and ovarian cancer

2013

Journal article TERT-locus SNPs and leukocyte telomere measures are reportedly associated with risks of multiple cancers. Using the Illumina custom genotyping array iCOGs, we analyzed ~480 SNPs at the TERT locus in breast (n = 103,991), ovarian (n = 39,774) and BRCA1 mutation carrier (n = 11,705) cancer cases and controls. Leukocyte telomere measurements were also available for 53,724 participants. Most associations cluster into three independent peaks. The minor allele at the peak 1 SNP rs2736108 associates with longer telomeres (P = 5.8 × 10!-7), lower risks for estrogen receptor (ER)-negative (P = 1.0 × 10!-8) and BRCA1 mutation carrier (P = 1.1 × 10!-5) breast cancers and altered promot…
