Fullerene-containing Polymers

In the present chapter, the different C60-based polymers have been classified according to structural parameters and the different synthetic strategies to prepare them have been highlighted. Two new families have been added, namely fullerene–nanotubes hybrid and DNA–fullerene hybrid, due to the nondiscrete nature of the corresponding members. Finally, fullerene-containing polymers’ most promising applications have been discussed, mainly focusing on nonlinear optics, DNA-cleaving and photovoltaic properties.

This book offers as comprehensive an overview as possible of the lithostratigraphy of the Italian region of Sicily, taking into account the multiplicity of formational and terminological variability developed over more than a century of studies and publications. It presents stratigraphic terminology, the geological lexicon and the main stratigraphic subdivisions that are not familiar to Sicilian geologists. Out-of-Plane fragility of In-Plane damaged unreinforced masonry infills in low rise reinforced concrete buildings

Unreinforced masonry (URM) is commonly used to make infill walls in reinforced concrete (RC) frame buildings. Such infill walls are highly vulnerable to out-of-plane (OOP) seismic loading and this can result in huge economic losses and human casualties. Therefore, fragility assessment of URM infill walls under seismic loads is important in view of performing large-scale risk analysis. In this paper, OOP fragility functions are provided based on a numerical investigation supported by a macro-element model. During an earthquake, an interaction between the in-plane and out-of-plane seismic forces occurs and the infilled frames suffer damage in both in-plane and out-of-plane directions simultaneously. Abstract This paper provides an economic analysis of the investment in grid-connected PV (photovoltaic) systems installed on the rooftops of buildings located in densely urbanised contexts. The analysis was applied to some case studies that were selected as representative of the latitudes of the southern, central and northern Italy. The returns of the investment in PV systems were investigated with the aim of comparing the impact of the current PV policy, based on the tax credit scheme, with the FIT (feed-in tariff) scheme, in force until July 2013. Wave and Wind Energy Systems Integration in Vietnam: Analysis of Energy Potential and Economic Feasibility

Vietnam energy demand is currently growing at a very high annual rate, with the government being very interested in investments in renewable energies. Since the region with the highest solar and wind potential is far away from the big load centers, an investigation of offshore energy resources is here proposed. In this study, a review of previous energy potential assessments is provided. Moreover, the minimum feed-in-tariff to make the investments profitable is evaluated, showing that the current tariff for offshore wind plants is largely unattractive.
