The incorporation of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) will pay off soon with the release of the first labor market new-plan graduates. In this study an initial assessment of the results is done by analyzing whether the curriculum (new-plan degree or old-plan degree) and the use of new teaching methodologies have led to significant differences in academic performance or if, on the contrary, they did not. These results suggest that this performance is higher for old-plan graduates, and also for those who have benefited from a new pedagogical tool (students from both the old and new plan). Data used corresponds to that from two different classes, one of them from an old-plan double d…
Labor Market Flexibility and Unemployment: New Empirical Evidence of Static and Dynamic Effects
2012
The aim of this paper is to analyze the relationship between labor market flexibility and unemployment outcomes. Using a panel of 97 countries from 1985 to 2008, the results of the paper suggest that improvements in labor market flexibility have a statistically and significant negative impact on unemployment outcomes (over unemployment, youth unemployment, and long-term unemployment). Among the different labor market flexibility indicators analyzed, hiring and firing regulations and hiring costs are found to have the strongest effect.
Effect of carboxymethyl cellulose on tartrate salt, protein and colour stability of red wine
2014
Background and Aims Recent studies have confirmed a long-term effect of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) for tartrate salt stabilisation in white wine. It has been argued that CMC is not only less effective in red wine but also interacts with proteins and polyphenols generating turbidity and change in colour. In order to explain these effects, we studied in detail the impact of CMC on haze formation and colour stability of red wine. Methods and Results The influence of CMC concentration was tested with ten samples of red wine produced from several grape cultivars. The haze-forming material was analysed by sodium dodecyl-sulfate polyacrylamide electrophoresis and the protein composition by high…
Bandgap lowering in mixed alloys of Cs2Ag(SbxBi1−x)Br6 double perovskite thin films
2020
Halide double perovskites have gained significant attention, owing to their composition of low-toxicity elements, stability in air and long charge-carrier lifetimes. However, most double perovskites, including Cs2AgBiBr6, have wide bandgaps, which limit photo conversion efficiencies. The bandgap can be reduced through hallowing with Sb3+, but Sb-rich alloys are difficult to synthesise due to the high formation energy of Cs2AgSbBr6, which itself has a wide bandgap. We develop a solution-based route to synthesis phase-pure Cs2Ag(SbxBi1-x)Br6 thin films, with the mixing parameter x continuous varying over the entire composition range. We reveal that the mixed alloys (x between 0.5 and 0.9) dem…
One- and Two-Dimensional Diffusion of Metal Atoms in Graphene
2008
In the present work, individual Au or Pt atoms in layersconsisting of one or twographene planes have been monitoredin real time at high temperature by high-resolution TEM. Weobtain information about the location of metal atoms ingrapheneandthediffusionmechanisms.Activationenergiesfordiffusion are obtained in a temperature range close to thetemperature of the technically important metal-assisted CVDprocess.Thematerialwassynthesizedinanarcdischarge
Visualizing pectin polymer-polymer entanglement produced by interfacial water movement.
2020
In this report, we investigated the physical conditions for creating pectin polymer-polymer (homopolymer) entanglement. The potential role of water movement in creating pectin entanglement was investigated by placing water droplets-equivalent to the water content of two gel phase films-between two glass phase films and compressing the films at variable probe velocities. Slow probe velocity (0.5 mm/sec) demonstrated no significant debonding. Corresponding videomicroscopy demonstrated an occasional water bridge, but no evidence of stranding or polymer entanglement. In contrast, fast probe velocity (5 mm/sec) resulted in 1) an increase in peak adhesion strength, 2) a progressive debonding curv…
To detach or not to detach? The role of psychological detachment on the relationship between heavy work investment and well-being: A latent profile a…
2021
AbstractThis study focuses on two types of heavy work investment, namely workaholism and work engagement, and on psychological detachment from work. Both workaholism and work engagement refer to an intense work effort, yet with a different impact on work and personal life. Building on Stressor–Detachment Model (SDM), we examine how different levels of workaholism, work engagement, and psychological detachment influence different outcomes related to employees’ well-being (i.e., perceived health, negative affectivity, positive affectivity). Data were collected from 342 employees via online survey and analyzed by mean of latent profile analysis. Five employee profiles were identified: High-Det…
Reports and other PDF Documents
2014
Stata users often need to combine text, tables, and figures. The author's command, lpdf, generates reports and other PDF documents. lpdf compiles text stored in global macros, tables stored as dataset tables or LATEX table input files, and figures stored as Stata graphs or PDF figure files. LATEX must be installed, but familiarity with LATEX is not necessary. lpdf performs every step through Stata and with Stata syntax. It generates documents in report or article style and portrait or landscape orientation. The default author name, document title, and date can be modified. Further format options include the font and margin sizes. For each table and figure, the width and layout can be adapt…
Production of VEGF and b-FGF in the drainage fluid from patients undergoing incisional hernia repair
2005
Wound healing is a complex process involving interaction between different cell types, such as growth factors. Among these, vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGF) and basic fibroblast growth factors (b-FGF) are the most important. The aim of this study was to assess the production of VEGF and b-FGF in wound drainage fluid from patients undergoing incisional abdominal hernia repair. Ten female patients with abdominal midline incisional hernia undergoing surgical repair were included in this study. In all cases a closed suction drain was placed in the wound below the fascia and removed on postoperative day 4. Wound fluid was collected on the I, II, III and IV day and its amount at each ti…
Synthesis of new asymmetric xanthene dyes via catalyst-free SNAr with sulfur nucleophiles
2014
Addition of a single functional handle to the tricyclic moiety of fluorescein results in asymmetric xanthene dyes. Our synthesis of a new class of asymmetric xanthenes proceeds via an unusual SNAr with sulfur nucleophiles on electron rich aromatic xanthenes scaffolds in the absence of a metal catalyst. The resulting 3'-thioethers exhibit high photostability and are conveniently converted into reactive dyes for macromolecule labelling.
