Daphnia magna individuals were transplanted across 12 sites from three Spanish river basins (Llobregat, Ebro, Jucar) showing different sources of pollution. Gene transcription, feeding and biochemical responses in the field were assessed and compared with those obtained in re-constituted water treatments spiked with organic eluates obtained from water samples collected at the same locations and sampling periods. Assessment of toxicity hazards of dredged lake sediment contaminated by creosote.

In order to predict the potential toxicity hazards of sediment remediation by dredging, an experimental laboratory simulation was made by investigating seven ratios of creosote-contaminated sediment (Lake Jamsanvesi, central Finland) and artificial lake water mixtures. Sediment was suspended in water at the ratios of 1:1, 1:2, 1:4, 1:8, 1:16, 1:32, 1:64, 1:128 v/v. The elutriates were analysed for the acute toxicity by photoluminescence bacterial and waterflea (Daphnia magna Straus) tests. As the number of legal and illegal gold mining sites increases in the Andes–Amazonia region, integrative methods to evaluate the effects of mining pollution on freshwater ecosystems are of paramount importance. Here, we sampled water and sediments in 11 sites potentially affected by gold mining activities in the Napo province (Ecuador). The molecular masses of macromolecules and subunits of the extracellular hemoglobin from the fresh-water crustacean Daphnia magna were determined by analytical ultracentrifugation, multiangle laser light scattering and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. The hemoglobins from hypoxia-incubated, hemoglobin-rich and normoxia-incubated, hemoglobin-poor Daphnia magna were analyzed separately. Abstract The purpose of this study was to determine the acute toxicity in aquatic organisms of one biocidal active substance and six metabolites derived from biocidal active substances and to assess the suitability of available QSAR models to predict the obtained values. We have reported the acute toxicity in sewage treatment plant (STP) microorganisms, in the freshwater microalgae Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata and in Daphnia magna following OECD test methods. Sabba da Castiglione (Milano 1480 – Faenza 1554) soggiornò a lungo nell’Oriente greco in gioventù, all’epoca della sua militanza nell’ordine dei cavalieri di S. Giovanni. Da Rodi, dove prestava il suo servizio, effettuò diversi viaggi nel Mare Egeo e visitò numerose isole, allo scopo di cercare manufatti antichi da inviare a Isabella d’Este, che lo aveva incaricato di procurarle nuovi pezzi per la sua collezione mantovana. Lo stesso Sabba ebbe modo di crearsi una propria raccolta, della quale nel presente lavoro si discutono intenti e peculiarità.

I funghi ipogei dell'Emilia Romagna e della Sicilia a confronto

In questo lavoro vengono riportate le specie di funghi ipogei trovate in Emilia-Romagna ed in Sicilia in molti anni di ricerche condotte utilizzando cani addestrati. In totale sono state trovate ed identificate 57 specie di Ascomiceti ipogei e 59 specie di Basidiomiceti ipogei. In entrambe le regioni sono diffuse specie eduli di elevato valore commerciale quali T. aestivum e T. borchii, mentre T. magnatum e T. macrosporum sono presenti solo in Emilia Romagna. T. melanosporum fruttifica, anche se raro, in Emilia Romagna e, nonostante alcuni raccoglitori ne ipotizzano la presenza in Sicilia, non è stato ancora trovato nell’ambito delle nostre ricerche.
