MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry identification of filamentous fungi in the clinical laboratory.

2014

Pôle MERS F. Dalle; International audience; This study aimed to validate the effectiveness of a standardised procedure for the MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry (MS)-based identification on a large sample of filamentous fungi routinely identified in university hospitals' laboratories. Non-dermatophyte filamentous fungi prospectively isolated in the routine activity of five teaching hospitals in France were first identified by conventional methods in each laboratory and then by MS in one centre. DNA sequence-based identification resolved discrepancies between both methods. In this study, of the 625 analysed filamentous fungi of 58 species, 501 (80%) and 556 (89%) were correctly identified by conve…

A Multicentre Pilot Study of a Two-Tier Newborn Sickle Cell Disease Screening Procedure with a First Tier Based on a Fully Automated MALDI-TOF MS Pla…

2019

The reference methods used for sickle cell disease (SCD) screening usually include two analytical steps: a first tier for differentiating haemoglobin S (HbS) heterozygotes, HbS homozygotes and β-thalassemia from other samples, and a confirmatory second tier. Here, we evaluated a first-tier approach based on a fully automated matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) platform with automated sample processing, a laboratory information management system and NeoSickle® software for automatic data interpretation. A total of 6701 samples (with high proportions of phenotypes homozygous (FS) or heterozygous (FAS) for the inherited genes for sickle h…

Gaļas bojāšanos izraisošo mikroorganismu identifikācija

2016

Mass‐Spectrometric Imaging of Electrode Surfaces—a View on Electrochemical Side Reactions

2020

Abstract Electrochemical side reactions, often referred to as “electrode fouling”, are known to be a major challenge in electro‐organic synthesis and the functionality of modern batteries. Often, polymerization of one or more components is observed. When reaching their limit of solubility, those polymers tend to adsorb on the surface of the electrode, resulting in a passivation of the respective electrode area, which may impact electrochemical performance. Here, matrix‐assisted laser‐desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI‐MS) is presented as valuable imaging technique to visualize polymer deposition on electrode surfaces. Oligomer size distribution and its dependency on the contact …

Identification of cryptic Candida species by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, not all MALDI-TOF systems are the same: focus on the C. parapsilosis specie…

2016

Data about the performance of MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry against cryptic Candida species are limited. According to our findings within the C. parapsilosis species complex, microbiologists should be aware that the choice of the instrument is critical for accurate species identification due to the risk of misidentification in the clinical setting.

Description of Klebsiella spallanzanii sp. nov. and of Klebsiella pasteurii sp. nov

2019

AbstractKlebsiella oxytocacauses opportunistic human infections and post-antibiotic haemorrhagic diarrhoea. ThisEnterobacteriaceaespecies is genetically heterogeneous and is currently subdivided into seven phylogroups (Ko1 to Ko4, Ko6 to Ko8). Here we investigated the taxonomic status of phylogroups Ko3 and Ko4. Genomic sequence-based phylogenetic analyses demonstrate that Ko3 and Ko4 formed well-defined sequence clusters related to, but distinct from,Klebsiella michiganensis(Ko1),Klebsiella oxytoca(Ko2),K. huaxiensis(Ko8) andK. grimontii(Ko6). The average nucleotide identity of Ko3 and Ko4 were 90.7% withK. huaxiensisand 95.5% withK. grimontii, respectively. In addition, three strains ofK.…

Ag44(SeR)30: A Hollow Cage Silver Cluster with Selenolate Protection.

2015

Selenolate protected, stable and atomically precise, hollow silver cluster was synthesized using solid state as well as solution state routes. The optical absorption spectrum shows multiple and sharp features similar to the thiolated Ag44 cluster, Ag44(SR)30 whose experimental structure was reported recently. High-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HRESI MS) shows well-defined molecular ion features with two, three, and four ions with isotopic resolution, due to Ag44(SePh) 30. Additional characterization with diverse tools confirmed the composition. The closed-shell 18 electron superatom electronic structure, analogous to Ag44(SR)30 stabilizes the dodecahedral cage with a…

Il seicentesco palazzo vescovile di Santa Lucia del Mela (Messina)

2013

The Bishop's Palace in Santa Lucia del Mela (Messina) was built from 1607, commissioned by Don Simone Rao Grimaldi, as prestigious seat for his successors. The riliefs, which are stored in the Archivo General de Simancas, all together with the evaluation of the building and the deed of gift to Filippo III, and the documentary findings due to local scholars, offer the change to consider the constructive issue of a building still less well-known and his "mysterious" architect.
