Theoretical and Experimental Comparison between the Resistance Components of a fast Catamaran in different Configurations

The investigation performed by the Authors represents the most recent development of a research presented in [1] and [2], in which the geometrical solutions of the hull have been obtained through an optimization process, made by using the CFD numerical methods. The most important result of this optimization was the wave resistance reduction, which arrived up to 20% of the total initial resistance. In this further process the hull catamaran model has been built and tested at the towing tanks of the Universities of Naples and Trieste. Microwave heating of water in a rectangular waveguide: Validating EOF-Library against COMSOL multiphysics and existing numerical studies

The purpose of this work is two-fold: first, we successfully validate our open-source tool EOF-Library, which efficiently couples Elmer FEM and OpenFOAM, against COMSOL Multiphysics, a commercial simulation package; second, we inform about significant discrepancies between our results and the experimental and simulation data found in a series of research papers. We reproduce the previously published numerical simulations wherein microwaves are supplied to a water domain through a rectangular waveguide, inducing convective flow. Experimental and numerical study of anomalous thermocapillary convection in liquid gallium

Thermocapillary Marangoni convection of liquid gallium was studied experimentally and numerically. A specially designed experimental setup ensured an oxide-free surface of the liquid gallium for a very long time. The convective flow at the free surface was found to be directed opposite to both buoyancy-driven and ordinary thermocapillary convection. The anomalous direction of the thermocapillary flow was explained by the presence of a small amount of a surface-active contaminant—lead adsorbed at the free surface. Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease. Its treatment is based on the inhibition of proliferation of epidermal cells and interference in the inflammatory process. A new systemic antipsoriasis drug, which consists of dimethylfumarate and ethylhydrogenfumarate in the form of their calcium, magnesium and zinc salts has been introduced in Europe with successful results. Participation and performance trends in multistage ultramarathons—the ‘Marathon des Sables’ 2003–2012

Abstract Background The purpose of this study was to investigate participation and performance changes in the multistage ultramarathon ‘Marathon des Sables’ from 2003 to 2012. Methods Participation and performance trends in the four- or six-stage running event covering approximately 250 km were analyzed with special emphasis on the nationality and age of the athletes. The relations between gender, age, and nationality of finishers and performance were investigated using regression analyses and analysis of variance. Age-Related Differences in Motivation of Recreational Runners, Marathoners, and Ultra-Marathoners

Aim: This study was aimed to investigate the influence of age on the motivations of various types of runners, namely, marathoners, ultra-marathoners, and non-starters.Methods: A total of 1,537 runners including 380 women (24.7%) and 1,157 men (75.3%) took part in the diagnostic survey and completed the motivations of marathoners’ scales questionnaire (MOMS). The effect sizes were estimated.Results: The article presents several statistically significant differences in the impact of age on the motivations of runners in different categories and compares the motivations of marathon runners, ultramarathon runners, and non-starters. DcuA of Escherichia coli is known as an alternative C4 -dicarboxylate transporter for the main anaerobic C4 -dicarboxylate transporter DcuB. Since dcuA is expressed constitutively under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, DcuA was suggested to serve aerobically as a backup for the aerobic (DctA) transporter, or for the anabolic uptake of C4 -dicarboxylates. In this work, it is shown that DcuA is required for aerobic growth with L-aspartate as a nitrogen source, whereas for growth with L-aspartate as a carbon source, DctA was needed.
