“Life is not what you have lived, but what you remember and how you remem- ber it to tell”. Taking cue from the words of Gabriel García Márquez, the essay analyzes a gallery of photographic images portraying “family photos”, made in Sicily between the end of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century, which are placed in an inter- mediate space between oral and written traditions becoming “biographical object”. AbstractThis paper discusses the complex relationship between material culture and gender studies from a methodological point of view, with the aim of contributing to discussions in the field of Classical archaeology. First, we provide a few historiographical benchmarks for key epistemological developments, while evidencing the methodological difficulties inherent in the variability of our interpretations of burial practices and data. Then, in a second section, a case study focuses on simple objects of daily life. La ricerca analizza sia i processi macrosociali, riferiti alla comunità, sia i processi micro, propri della dinamica di coppia. Per i primi abbiamo esaminato la percezione di diversità che può scaturire dalle dinamiche intergruppali e l’identità di luogo (intesa come radicamento nel nuovo contesto di accoglienza); per le dinamiche di coppia si sono prese in esame l’impatto che la presenza dei figli genera sulla dinamica di coppia e gli stili educativi adottati. Coerentemente con il metodo d’indagine della ricerca qualitativa, sono state intervistate 22 coppie miste residenti in Sicilia. In recent times thorough changes concerning the treatment of the wedding vows take place. One of the ways to create a positive approach to marriage seems to be a solemn observation of marriage jubilees .The paper deals with the historical process of the development of the forms of observance concerning wedding anniversaries. However the main emphasis is put on the rites of wedding anniversary in post conciliar liturgical books. The reader may also become aware of the idea and history of pilgrimages organized on the occasion of the silver and golden marriage jubilees, considering also a strong and clear testimony to the importance of the wedding vows.
Extending the Limits of Nature. Political Animals, Artefacts, and Social Institutions

This essay discusses how medieval authors from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries dealt with a philosophical problem that social institutions pose for the Aristotelian dichotomy between natural and artificial entities. It is argued that marriage, political community, and language provided a particular challenge for the conception that things which are designed by human beings are artefacts. Medieval philosophers based their arguments for the naturalness of social institutions on the anthropological view that human beings are political animals by nature, but this strategy required rethinking the borderline between nature and art.
