Educational Styles and Consequences of Birth of Children for Binational Couples
2014
The paper examines the dynamics of bicultural couples in which one partner is autochthonous and the other is of foreign nationality. Referring to family dynamics, has taken into consideration two levels of analysis: the impact that the presence of children creates on the dynamic of couple and the educational styles adopted. According to the basic assumptions of qualitative research, 22 mixed couples living in Sicily were interviewed. To analyse the contents, which emerged from interviews, the Atlas.ti software was used. Through the narrative method we explored the meanings that partners assign to their daily lives and differences they experienced. The birth of children marks the passage fro…
Jessie Bernard.
The Gender diverse and the Genderless Conceptions of Marriage and Children’s Right to Develop their Sexual Identity
2016
The article is a philosophical analysis of the meaning structure of two competing conceptions of marriage with regard to children’s right to develop their sexual identity. These two conceptions of marriage make different metaphysical assumptions about human nature, which lead to different conceptions about the preconditions of children’s sexual development. The gender diverse conception assumes that human beings are born with a biological sex and they can be integrated persons only when living in terms with it. In order to develop their sexual identity they benefit from male-female interaction within the nuclear family. The genderless conception assumes that children are free to construct t…
FAMILY LAW, RELIGIOUS MARRIAGE AND SHARIA COURTS IN WESTERN SOCIETIES. ONE COMPARATIVE INSIGHT ON THE ENGLISH MODEL
2017
Liberal versions of multiculturalism suggest the need to adopt legal solutions to the recognition and support of minority groups, thus the recognition of cultural or collective rights, which must meet though certain limitations and precautions to protect the freedom of individuals within groups. On the judicial level, this may mean that the courts, in applying the law, take into account foreign standards, as well as principles and rules of its domestic law to assemble a third concrete norm, new with respect to the rules and principles of the systems considered. In this study the issues outlined so far will be addressed by analysing, in short, the role and influence of the Sharia Courts and …
I CHIAROMONTE TRA VENTIMIGLIA E PALIZZI: DIPLOMAZIA MATRIMONIALE E STRATEGIE DINASTICHE NELLA SICILIA DEL TRECENTO
2022
The essay investigates the marriage diplomacy of Chiaromonte family by a detailed analysis of their ties with Ventimiglia and Palizzi, in the context of their relations with the kings of Sicily, the Angevins, the Aragonese, and the papacy. We deduce that the marriage strategies of comital families influenced the island’s politics. The genealogical construction rooted families in the past, so preserving the good reputation of the ancestors was essential. A fair number of sons, able to pass on the family surname and to maintain comital feuds, ensured dynastic continuity and projected towards the future. Blood and personal skills were more important than legal rules, so illegitimacy was not an…
María de Fonseca (c. 1486-1521) and the Marquis of Zenete (1473-1523): Aristocratic Rebels and Patrons of Renaissance Culture
2016
