The Prognostic Value of P53 in Predicting of Bladder Carcinoma
2005
The prognostic value of p53 in predicting recurrence and progression of superficial transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder (TCCB) is still uncertain. Materials and methods P53 expression was retrospectively assessed in 160 patients. At a median follow-up of 45 months, (up to years) 84 patients (53%) recurred and 13 (8%) progressed. Adjuvant intravesical chemotherapy after TUR was adopted in 51 patients (32%). The correlations between p53 and G-grade, T-category, risk of recurrence and progression, and intravesical chemotherapy were investigated. Similarly, the correlations between variations in grade and stage at recurrence and modifications in p53 expression were also studied. Results…
Echocardiography in myocardial infarction
1986
This paper discusses the usefulness of echocardiography in thrombolysis, its diagnostic value and drawbacks for therapy and the possibilities for follow-up studies. The diagnostic value is seen in the possibility of localizing and defining the extent of myocardial infarction, not only of the left but also of the right ventricle, and recognizing the complications of myocardial infarction as soon as possible 1, 2, 4.
Snapshot Spectral Imaging
2018
This chapter describes an application of the spline-based wavelet frames to the spectral imaging. It presents a method that enables to convert a regular digital camera into a snapshot spectral imager by equipping the camera with a dispersive diffuser and with a compressed sensing-based algorithm for digital processing. The method relies on the assumption that typical images can be sparsely represented in the frame domain. The solution is found from the constrained \(l_{1}\) minimization of a functional by Bregman iterations. Results of optical experiments are reported. The chapter is based on the paper (Golub et al., Appl. Opt. 55, 432–443, (2016), [11]).
Directional Control Mechanisms in Multidirectional Step Initiating Tasks.
2020
Typical anticipatory postural adjustments (APAs) in forward gait or step initiation tasks to prepare for possible disturbances caused by prime voluntary movements and to accelerate the body forward have been previously reported. However, it is not clear how wide the variations in step directions are differentiated and controlled in non-forward step initiation tasks during the APA phase. The main goal of this study is to explain the directional control mechanisms by investigating the APA of step initiation tasks in forward, diagonal, lateral, and posterior directions. The center of pressure (COP) trajectories and related muscle (soleus, tibialis anterior, and gluteus medius of both lower lim…
Unilateral Conditioning Contractions Enhance Power Output in Elite Short Track Speed Skaters
2018
AbstractThe objective of the present study was to assess the effect of unilateral lower-body-conditioning muscle contractions during multiple sets of fatiguing repeated jumps in elite athletes. Five elite short-track speed-skating athletes performed 9 sets of 6 maximal consecutive jumps on 2 separate occasions: with (COND) and without (CTRL) preliminary voluntary conditioning contractions (CC) 5 min before the beginning of the sets. The CC consisted of 2 consecutive 3 s maximal unilateral isometric squats against a fixed bar, resulting in a 6 s overall isometric contraction per leg. For each set, power output (PO) was measured using a linear position transducer and averaged over the 6 corre…
Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation over the Right Inferior Parietal Cortex Reduces Transposition Errors in a Syllabic Reordering Task
2021
Evidence derived from functional imaging and brain-lesion studies has shown a strong left lateralization for language, and a complementary right hemisphere dominance for visuospatial abilities. Nevertheless, the symmetrical functional division of the two hemispheres gives no reason for the complexity of the cognitive operations involved in carrying out a linguistic task. In fact, a growing number of neuroimaging and neurostimulation studies suggest a possible right hemisphere involvement in language processing. The objective of this work was to verify the contribution of the left and right parietal areas in a phonological task. We applied anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS…
Reliability and validity of a new accelerometer-based device for detecting physical activities and energy expenditure.
2018
Background Objective assessments of sedentary behavior and physical activity (PA) by using accelerometer-based wearable devices are ever expanding, given their importance in the global context of health maintenance. This study aimed to determine the reliability and validity of a new accelerometer-based analyzer (Fibion) for detecting different PAs and estimating energy expenditure (EE) during a simulated free-living day. Methods The study consisted of two parts: a reliability (n = 18) and a validity (n = 19) test. Reliability was assessed by a 45 min protocol of repeated sitting, standing, and walking (i.e., 3 × 15 min, repeated twice), using both Fibion and ActiGraph. Validity was assesse…
