The Raven's Coloured Progressive Matrices in Healthy Children: A Qualitative Approach
2020
Studies on the structure of intelligence refer to two main theoretical models: the first one considers intelligence as a unitary construct, the second one assumes the involvement of a plurality of factors. Studies using Raven’s Coloured Progressive Matrices (RCPM) tasks have often highlighted the involvement of different cognitive abilities and brain structures, but in the clinical setting, RCPM measurement continues to be used as a single score. The current study aimed to analyse the RCPM performance following qualitative clustering, in order to provide an interpretation of the intelligence assessment through a factorial criterion. The RCPM have been administered to a large group of typica…
The matricellular protein SPARC supports follicular dendritic cell networking toward Th17 responses.
2011
Abstract Lymphnode swelling during immune responses is a transient, finely regulated tissue rearrangement, accomplished with the participation of the extracellular matrix. Here we show that murine and human reactive lymph nodes express SPARC in the germinal centres. Defective follicular dendritic cell networking in SPARC-deficient mice is accompanied by a severe delay in the arrangement of germinal centres and development of humoral autoimmunity, events that are linked to Th17 development. SPARC is required for the optimal and rapid differentiation of Th17 cells, accordingly we show delayed development of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis whose pathogenesis involves Th17. Not only h…
Biominéralisation chez les Céphalopodes (Mollusca) : processus moléculaires et évolution
2021
Molluscs constitute one of the most diversified phyla within metazoans, known for their ability to mineralize a shell. The shell biomineralization is a genetically controlled process that is performed extracellularly via a calcifying organic matrix. This latter, which remains finally occluded (at least, partially) into the shell, is a mixture of proteins, glycoproteins, lipids and polysaccharides, that are collectively secreted by the external calcifying epithelium of the mantle. Today, the shell matrix is usually considered as the ‘molecular toolbox’ for constructing the shell. Since its discovery, it has been the focus of numerous studies, but mainly on bivalves and gastropods leaving cep…
Fast Hierarchical Boundary Element Method for Large Scale 3-D Elastic Problems
2010
This chapter reviews recent developments in the strategies for the fast solution of boundary element systems of equations for large scale 3D elastic problems. Both isotropic and anisotropic materials as well as cracked and uncracked solids are considered. The focus is on the combined use the hierarchical representation of the boundary element collocation matrix and iterative solution procedures. The hierarchical representation of the collocation matrix is built starting from the generation of the cluster and block trees that take into account the nature of the considered problem, i.e. the possible presence of a crack. Low rank blocks are generated through adaptive cross approximation (ACA) …

Biological indicators of prognosis in Ewing's sarcoma: An emerging role for lectin galactoside-binding soluble 3 binding protein (LGALS3BP)
2009
Starting from an experimental model that accounts for the 2 most important adverse processes to successful therapy of Ewing's sarcoma (EWS), chemoresistance and the presence of metastasis at the time of diagnosis, we defined a molecular signature of potential prognostic value. Functional annotation of differentially regulated genes revealed 3 major networks related to cell cycle, cell-to-cell interactions and cellular development. The prognostic impact of 8 genes, representative of these 3 networks, was validated in 56 EWS patients. High mRNA expression levels of HINT1, IFITM2, LGALS3BP, STOML2 and c-MYC were associated with reduced risk to death and lower risk to develop metastasis. At mul…
WIN55,212-2-induced expression of Mir-29b1 favours the suppression of osteosarcoma cell migration in a SPARC-independent manner
2019
WIN55,212-2 (WIN) is a synthetic agonist of cannabinoid receptors that displays promising antitumour properties. The aim of this study is to demonstrate that WIN is able to block the migratory ability of osteosarcoma cells and characterize the mechanisms involved. Using wound healing assay and zymography, we showed that WIN affects cell migration and reduces the activity of the metalloproteases MMP2 and MMP9. This effect seemed to be independent of secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine (SPARC), a matricellular protein involved in tissue remodeling and extracellular matrix deposition. SPARC release was indeed prevented by WIN, and SPARC silencing by RNA interference did not influence …
Transbuccal tablets of carbamazepine: formulation, release and absorption pattern.
2006
Tranbsuccal drug administration is an attractive method, as it has several advantages especially with respect to peroral delivery. Here we report: i) the aptitude of carbamazepine (CBZ) to penetrate porcine buccal mucosa and reconstituted human oral (RHO) epithelium; ii) three different tablet formulations for transbuccal administration; iii) the drug release rate from tablets. CBZ permeation through the buccal mucosa was investigated by using two different bi-compartmental open models: Franz cells for porcine buccal mucosa and Transwell diffusion cells system for RHO epithelium. Results, expressed as drug flux (Js) and permeability coefficients (Kp), indicated that CBZ well penetrates the …
Experimental results of RC columns strengthnened with Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Mortars
2012
The structural behaviour of reinforced concrete columns strengthened with a system made up of fibre nets embedded in an inorganic stabilized cementitious matrix was investigated. Specimens with circular and square cross-section were cast and subjected to monotonic uniaxial compression to investigate the efficiency of a Polypara-phenylene-benzo-bisthiazole (PBO) Fibre Reinforced Cementitious Mortars (FRCM) system in increasing both carrying capacity and ductility. The experimental results show that confinement with PBO fibre produced a noticeable increment in strength and ductility, though the low mechanical ratios of fibre considered were not always able to ensure hardening behaviour up to …
Generalized centro-invertible matrices with applications
2014
Centro-invertible matrices are introduced by R.S. Wikramaratna in 2008. For an involutory matrix R, we define the generalized centro-invertible matrices with respect to R to be those matrices A such that RAR = A^−1. We apply these matrices to a problem in modular arithmetic. Specifically, algorithms for image blurring/deblurring are designed by means of generalized centro-invertible matrices. In addition, if R1 and R2 are n × n involutory matrices, then there is a simple bijection between the set of all centro-invertible matrices with respect to R1 and the set with respect to R2.
