Physical fitness and volume of leisure time physical activity relate with low stress and high mental resources in young men.
2014
AIM: There is limited evidence available regarding the relationship between physical fitness, especially muscular fitness, and the mental well-being among young healthy men. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the impact of measured cardiovascular and muscle fitness and self reported leisure time physical activity (LTPA) on outcomes of stress and mental resources in Finnish young men. METHODS: In a cross-sectional study, 831 men (mean age 25 y) underwent cardiovascular and muscle fitness test and completed LTPA and Occupational Stress Questionnaires (OSQ). For analysis, the subjects were divided to LTPA, CVF and MFI tertiles. RESULTS: The group with low LTPA reported …
2',5'-Oligoadenylate synthetase activity analysis and human papilloma virus typing as prognostic factors in patients with recurrent respiratory papil…
2004
Objective: Determination of early prognostic factors in patients with recurrent respiratory papillomatosis is extremely important, so the major goal of our prospective, multicentre study was to evaluate (1) the feasibility of various factors to determine prognosis of the clinical course,as well as (2) the response to interferon-alpha therapy in recurrent respiratory papillomatosis. Methods: Forty-two patients with recurrent respiratory papillomatosis were treated with interferon-alpha (3 MU/m2 three times per week; mean therapy duration was 2.7 ± 1.8 years)in 1983–1994 and followed-up until 2003. Human papilloma virus (HPV) type, recurrent respiratory papillomatosis severity and 2′,5′-oligo…
Use of Interferon-Alpha in Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis: 20-Year Follow-up
2005
Objectives: The aim of this study was analysis of the results of use of interferon-α (IFN-α) in patients with recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP) and correlation of the results with human papillomavirus (HPV) type. Methods: A multicenter prospective series (42 patients from 22 hospitals) yielded 20 years of follow-up of patients with RRP and HPV typing who were treated with IFN-α in doses of 3 MU/m2 3 times per week. Results: During long-term follow-up (mean ± SD, 172 ± 36.8 months), the rate of event-free survival evaluated by Kaplan-Meier analysis was 42.8%, and the overall survival rate was 82.6%. The HPV typing revealed an association of HPV 11 with a more aggressive disease cour…
Rome consensus conference - statement; human papilloma virus diseases in males
2013
Background Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a very resistant, ubiquitous virus that can survive in the environment without a host. The decision to analyse HPV-related diseases in males was due to the broad dissemination of the virus, and, above all, by the need to stress the importance of primary and secondary prevention measures (currently available for women exclusively). The objective of the Consensus Conference was to make evidence-based recommendations that were designed to facilitate the adoption of a standard approach in clinical practice in Italy. Methods The Sponsoring Panel put a series of questions to the members of the Scientific Committee who prepared a summary of the currently av…
HPV DNA in clinically different variants of oral leukoplakia and lichen planus
2004
Abstract Objectives Our objectives were to determine the prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in oral leukoplakia (OL) and oral lichen planus (OLP) in comparison with that in healthy oral mucosa, also conditionally to age, gender, smoking, and drinking habits of patients, so as to investigate any possible association of HPV infection with a specific clinical variant of OL or OLP. Study design We did research on HPV DNA in 68 cases of OL (homogeneous form [H] in 45 cases and nonhomogeneous form [non-H] in 23 cases), and in 71 cases of OLP (nonatrophic/erosive form [non-AE] in 27 cases, atrophic/erosive form [AE] in 44 cases). HPV DNA was investigated in exfoliated oral mucosa c…
Immunization Campaigns and Strategies against Human Papillomavirus in Italy: The Results of a Survey to Regional and Local Health Units Representativ…
2019
Objective. The study aimed to assess the impact of HPV immunization campaigns organizational aspects, the characteristics of immunization program (vaccination targets and type of offer), and communicative strategies adopted by four Italian administrative regions on vaccination coverage observed. Methods. From November 2017 to March 2018, regional and Local Health Units (LHUs) representatives were invited to complete an online survey including 54 questions evaluating vaccination invite systems, access systems to vaccination centres, reminder and recall systems, and adverse events surveillance. An overall descriptive analysis was conducted. Since observed vaccine coverage (VC) obtained in fem…
Determinants of high-grade anal intraepithelial lesions in HIV-positive MSM.
2018
Objective - To assess determinants for histologically proven high-grade anal intraepithelial lesions (hHSIL) in HIV-positive men who have sex with men (MSM), a population at high-risk of HPV-related anal cancer. Design - APACHES is a prospective study of anal HPV and related-lesions in 513 HIV-positive MSM aged at least 35 years in six centres across France. Methods - At baseline, participants underwent high-resolution anoscopy (HRA) with biopsy of suspicious lesions, preceded by anal swabs for liquid-based cytology, p16/Ki67 immunostaining, and HPV DNA. hHSIL diagnosis was established by histopathological review panel consensus, and determinants assessed by logistic regression. Results - B…
Successful treatment of condylomata acuminata at the urethral meatus with high-dose ingenol mebutate gel: Report of two cases
2019
Condylomata acuminata (CA), or anogenital warts, is the most common sexually transmitted infection. Treatments for CA generally have suboptimal recurrence rates, which results in a need for repeated treatments and adds to the already negative impact on the patients’ quality of life. CA can present at the urethral meatus, which is a particularly challenging anatomic location from a therapeutic perspective. We report two cases of CA at the urethral meatus successfully treated with topical application of high-dose ingenol mebutate gel.
Recurrence rate of oral squamous cell papilloma after excision with surgical scalpel or laser therapy : a retrospective cohort study
2019
Background The aim was to describe the recurrence rates of Oral Squamous Cell Papilloma (OSCP) following surgical treatment with surgical scalpel and two different lasers (CO2 or Er,Cr;YSGG) and to determine the clinical and histopathologic features of these lesions. Material and Methods A retrospective cohort study covering a period of 12 years (1997-2009) that included patients diagnosed of OSCP treated with surgical excision was performed. Data was processed using SPSS 22.0 (SPPS Inc. Chicago, USA) and a descriptive and bivariate analysis were conducted. Results A total of 37 histopathologically confirmed OSCP in 36 patients, 19 women (52.7%) and 17 men (47.2%) with an average age of 33.…
