Phosphorous doping and drawing effects on the Raman spectroscopic properties of O=P bond in silica-based fiber and preform.

International audience; We report an experimental study of the doping and drawing effects on the Raman activities of phosphorus (P)-doped silica-based optical fiber and its related preform. Our data reveal a high sensitivity level in the full width at half maximum value of the 1330 cm−1 (O = P) Raman band to the P-doping level. Its increase with the P doping level does not clash with an increase in the disorder of the O = P surrendering matrix. In addition, we observe that in the central core region of the sample (higher doping level), the drawing process decreases the relative band amplitude. Constant sign and nodal solutions for nonlinear robin equations with locally defined source term

We consider a parametric Robin problem driven by a nonlinear, nonhomogeneous differential operator which includes as special cases the p-Laplacian and the (p,q)-Laplacian. The source term is parametric and only locally defined (that is, in a neighborhood of zero). Using suitable cut-off techniques together with variational tools and comparison principles, we show that for all big values of the parameter, the problem has at least three nontrivial smooth solutions, all with sign information (positive, negative and nodal).
Statistics-preserving bijections between classical and cyclic permutations

Recently, Elizalde (2011) [2] has presented a bijection between the set C"n"+"1 of cyclic permutations on {1,2,...,n+1} and the set of permutations on {1,2,...,n} that preserves the descent set of the first n entries and the set of weak excedances. In this paper, we construct a bijection from C"n"+"1 to S"n that preserves the weak excedance set and that transfers quasi-fixed points into fixed points and left-to-right maxima into themselves. This induces a bijection from the set D"n of derangements to the set C"n"+"1^q of cycles without quasi-fixed points that preserves the weak excedance set. Maximum Torque Per Ampere control algorithm for low saliency ratio interior permanent magnet synchronous motors

This paper presents an investigation on the comparison between the Maximum Torque Per Ampere (MTPA) and the Field Orientation Control (FOC) algorithms for interior permanent magnet synchronous machines (IPMSMs). In particular, this study was carried out on a small-power IPMSM with low salience ratio. Both control algorithms have been implemented in the Matlab/Simulink environment, obtaining promising results.

Ti3AlC2 and Ti3Al0.8Sn0.2C2 MAX phase powders are densified using Spark Plasma Sintering technique to obtain dense bulk materials. Oxidation tests are then performed over the temperature range 800-1000°C under synthetic air on the two different materials in order to compare their oxidation resistance. Electromagnetically induced switching of ferroelectric thin films

We analyze the interaction of an electromagnetic spike (one cycle) with a thin layer of ferroelectric medium with two equilibrium states. The model is the set of Maxwell equations coupled to the undamped Landau-Khalatnikov equation, where we do not assume slowly varying envelopes. From linear-scattering theory, we show that low-amplitude pulses can be completely reflected by the medium. Large-amplitude pulses can switch the ferroelectric. Using numerical simulations and analysis, we study this switching for long and short pulses, estimate the switching times, and provide useful information for experiments.
An Analytic Approach to the Modeling of Multijunction Solar Cells

Analytic expressions for the $JV$ -characteristics of three types of multijunction configurations are derived. From these, expressions for the short-circuit current, open-circuit voltage, and voltage at the maximum power point are found for multiterminal devices, and for series-connected tandem stacks. For voltage-matched devices, expressions for the optimal ratio of the number of bottom cells to the number of top cells are established. Luminescent coupling is incorporated throughout the article. Temperature Coefficients of Solar Cell Parameters at Maximum Power Point

Analytical expressions for the temperature coefficients of the maximum power point voltage and current are presented. The temperature coefficients are calculated assuming the bandgap to be a linear function of the temperature and accounting for energy losses of non-radiative nature. The latter are introduced in the model through the External Radiative Efficiency. The so-called $\gamma$ parameter, which has been shown to account for the thermal sensitivity of all mechanisms determining the open-circuit voltage, appears to also play a role in the temperature coefficient of the maximum power point voltage and current. The role of disorder on Er3+ luminescence in Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3

Abstract Photoluminescence in Er-doped NBT is studied at different temperatures. Remarkable reduction of the luminescence intensity in the green spectral range is found in the poled state comparing with the depoled state. Luminescence spectra at low temperatures reveal continuous wavelength shift of some maxima belonging to the 4 S 3/2 → 4 I 15/2 transition depending on the excitation wavelength, which is explained by large variety of different environments around Er 3+ related to the random distribution of Na + and Bi 3+ in A-sublattice of the ABO 3 perovskite structure.
