Rosa Cetro et Lorella Sini (éds), 2021. Fake news, rumeurs, intox…
2005
The rebuilding of the second world war half-destroyed cities was an occasion to try languages and modern techniques that was exceeded by the monumentality of the fascism just after a few good realizations. In Palermo, the rebuilding started, also with some architecture competition, a few projects that brought to fine examples of modern architecture. The Istituto Nautico is a very singular case; he was built in what was the ex San Bartolomeo Hospital, whose only the eighteenth century valuable arcade was salvaged. The winning project was remarkable for the inclusion of organic poetry elements in the rationalist architecture and as one of the first example of the inclusion of a new architectu…
RUINS PRESERVATION, TRANSFORMATION PROJECTS IN THE OLD TOWN CENTRE OF PALERMO. LINES OF DEVELOPMENT AND NEW PERSPECTIVES
2011
The accumulation of data for an uninterrupted arc of some millennia has suffered a rest, due to the 1943 massive bombings during the last war, and to the damages inflicted to the old town centre: the continuity of the urban and cultural environment, where the buildings live their own history, got broken. The wartime events left “empty spaces” in the historical city, that weren't filled in the following decades, and the ruins which miraculously were still standing up became a memento not only of the wounds caused by World War II, who were still partially open, but also of the following vicissitudes, neglect, carelessness and lack of culture. In 1993, besides passing the P.P.E., the municipal…

Reducing postharvest decay in cactus pears by dip treatment with imazalil or azoxystrobin
2019
Postharvest decay in cactus pear is a minor problem in fruit marketed directly after harvest, while it may represent a major cause of losses when fruit are cold stored or subjected to cold quarantine treatments. Unfortunately, to date, no postharvest fungicide has been registered to control postharvest decay of cactus pears. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of two globally known fungicides, imazalil (IMZ) and azoxystrobin (AZO), registered for postharvest treatment of various fresh produce species, to control decay on cactus pears. Second-crop cactus pears ‘Gialla’ fruits were dipped in 500 mg L(‑1) IMZ or AZO and stored at 1 or 8°C and 90-95% RH for 2 or 3 wee…

A visual framework to create photorealistic retinal vessels for diagnosis purposes
2020
The methods developed in recent years for synthesising an ocular fundus can be been divided into two main categories. The first category of methods involves the development of an anatomical model of the eye, where artificial images are generated using appropriate parameters for modelling the vascular networks and fundus. The second type of method has been made possible by the development of deep learning techniques and improvements in the performance of hardware (especially graphics cards equipped with a large number of cores). The methodology proposed here to produce high-resolution synthetic fundus images is intended to be an alternative to the increasingly widespread use of generative ad…
