Test of mode coupling theory for a supercooled liquid of diatomic molecules. II.q-dependent orientational correlators
1997
Using molecular dynamics computer simulations we study the dynamics of a molecular liquid by means of a general class of time-dependent correlators S_{ll'}^m(q,t) which explicitly involve translational (TDOF) and orientational degrees of freedom (ODOF). The system is composed of rigid, linear molecules with Lennard- Jones interactions. The q-dependence of the static correlators S_{ll'}^m(q) strongly depend on l, l' and m. The time dependent correlators are calculated for l=l'. A thorough test of the predictions of mode coupling theory (MCT) is performed for S_{ll}^m(q,t) and its self part S_{ll}^{(s)m}(q,t), for l=1,..,6. We find a clear signature for the existence of a single temperature T…
High Resolution Spectroscopy ofBΛ12by Electroproduction
2007
An experiment measuring electroproduction of hypernuclei has been performed in Hall A at Jefferson Lab on a $^{12}$C target. In order to increase counting rates and provide unambiguous kaon identification two superconducting septum magnets and a Ring Imaging CHerenkov detector (RICH) were added to the Hall A standard equipment. An unprecedented energy resolution of less than 700 keV FWHM has been achieved. Thus, the observed \lam{12}{B} spectrum shows for the first time identifiable strength in the core-excited region between the ground-state {\it s}-wave $\Lambda$ peak and the 11 MeV {\it p}-wave $\Lambda$ peak.
A high statistics lattice calculation of the B-meson binding energy
1996
We present a high statistics lattice calculation of the B--meson binding energy $\overline{\Lambda}$ of the heavy--quark inside the pseudoscalar B--meson. Our numerical results have been obtained from several independent numerical simulations at $\beta=6.0$, $6.2$ and $6.4$, and using, for the meson correlators, the results obtained by the APE group at the same values of $\beta$. Our best estimate, obtained by combining results at different values of $\beta$, is $\overline{\Lambda}=180^{+30}_{-20}$ MeV. For the $\overline{MS}$ running mass, we obtain $\overline{m}_{b}(\overline{m}_{b})=4.15 \pm 0.05 \pm 0.20$ GeV, in reasonable agreement with previous determinations. The systematic error is…
Cosmological Applications of Extended Electromagnetism
2013
Extended electromagnetism (EE) has been applied to cosmology in various papers. In all of them, the zero order energy density of the EE vector field plays the same role as vacuum energy. Perturbations of this field have been studied by using different approaches. Firstly, some basic equations and ideas are summarized and, then, the CMBFAST code is used to calculate the cosmic microwave background angular power spectrum for appropriate values of the EE parameters. Comparisons of the resulting spectra with a good observational one compatible with WMAP7 (Wilkinson map anisotropy probe 7 years data) seem to be promising. We are currently looking for a set of parameters leading to the best fitti…
Two-photon spectroscopy of mercury and velocity-selective double resonances
2009
Two-photon laser spectroscopy of the $6\text{ }{^{1}S}_{0}\ensuremath{-}7\text{ }{^{1}S}_{0}$ transition in mercury has been performed using two copropagating continuous-wave laser beams. One laser beam is at 254 nm wavelength and can be tuned to the $6\text{ }{^{1}S}_{0}\ensuremath{-}6\text{ }{^{3}P}_{1}$ resonance. The other laser beam is at 408 nm. Two very different regimes can be distinguished, one far off resonance and one near resonance with the one-photon resonance. A resonance which is not Doppler broadened has been observed for low Rabi frequencies. This velocity-selective double resonance in a three-level ladder system is analogous to the dark resonance in three-level $\ensuremat…
Large-scale inhomogeneities may improve the cosmic concordance of supernovae
2010
We reanalyze the supernovae data from the Union Compilation including the weak lensing effects caused by inhomogeneities. We compute the lensing probability distribution function for each background solution described by the parameters Omega_M, Omega_L and w in the presence of inhomogeneities, approximately modeled with a single-mass population of halos. We then perform a likelihood analysis in the space of FLRW-parameters and compare our results with the standard approach. We find that the inclusion of lensing can move the best-fit model significantly towards the cosmic concordance of the flat LCDM model, improving the agreement with the constraints coming from the cosmic microwave backgro…
Topology of adiabatic passage
2002
We examine the topology of eigenenergy surfaces characterizing the population transfer processes based on adiabatic passage. We show that this topology is the essential feature for the analysis of the population transfers and the prediction of its final result. We reinterpret diverse known processes, such as stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP), frequency-chirped adiabatic passage and Stark-chirped rapid adiabatic passage. Moreover, using this picture, we display new related possibilities of transfer. In particular, we show that we can selectively control the level that will be populated in STIRAP process in $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$ or V systems by the choice of the peak amplitudes or …

Statistical properties of the site-frequency spectrum associated with lambda-coalescents.
2013
Abstract Statistical properties of the site-frequency spectrum associated with Λ-coalescents are our objects of study. In particular, we derive recursions for the expected value, variance, and covariance of the spectrum, extending earlier results of Fu (1995) for the classical Kingman coalescent. Estimating coalescent parameters introduced by certain Λ-coalescents for data sets too large for full-likelihood methods is our focus. The recursions for the expected values we obtain can be used to find the parameter values that give the best fit to the observed frequency spectrum. The expected values are also used to approximate the probability a (derived) mutation arises on a branch subtending a…
