Studies of rotational level Λ-doubling by rf-optical double resonance spectroscopy: application to NaK D1Π

1997

Abstract We report here the application of optical-radio frequency double resonance spectroscopy for individual rotational levels of the NaK D 1 Π state. Lambda doubling constant q values for five ν′, J ′ levels are obtained. These data are combined with measurements of dc e - f Stark-mixing-induced changes in optical spectra, and the electric dipole moment d p in the D 1 Π state is determined.

Importance sampling for Lambda-coalescents in the infinitely many sites model

2011

We present and discuss new importance sampling schemes for the approximate computation of the sample probability of observed genetic types in the infinitely many sites model from population genetics. More specifically, we extend the 'classical framework', where genealogies are assumed to be governed by Kingman's coalescent, to the more general class of Lambda-coalescents and develop further Hobolth et. al.'s (2008) idea of deriving importance sampling schemes based on 'compressed genetrees'. The resulting schemes extend earlier work by Griffiths and Tavar\'e (1994), Stephens and Donnelly (2000), Birkner and Blath (2008) and Hobolth et. al. (2008). We conclude with a performance comparison o…

Theoretical description of the decays Λb→Λ(*)(12±,32±)+J/ψ

2017

We calculate the invariant and helicity amplitudes for the transitions ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}_{b}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}^{(*)}({J}^{P})+J/\ensuremath{\psi}$, where the ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}^{(*)}({J}^{P})$ are $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}(sud)$-type ground and excited states with ${J}^{P}$ quantum numbers ${J}^{P}={\frac{1}{2}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$, ${\frac{3}{2}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$. The calculations are performed in the framework of a covariant confined quark model previously developed by us. We find that the values of the helicity amplitudes for the ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}^{*}(1520,{\frac{3}{2}}^{\ensu…

Nonlinear Nonhomogeneous Robin Problems with Almost Critical and Partially Concave Reaction

2020

We consider a nonlinear Robin problem driven by a nonhomogeneous differential operator, with reaction which exhibits the competition of two Caratheodory terms. One is parametric, $$(p-1)$$-sublinear with a partially concave nonlinearity near zero. The other is $$(p-1)$$-superlinear and has almost critical growth. Exploiting the special geometry of the problem, we prove a bifurcation-type result, describing the changes in the set of positive solutions as the parameter $$\lambda >0$$ varies.

Lambda+, the renewal of the Lambda Architecture: Category Theory to the rescue

2021

Designing software architectures for Big Data is a complex task that has to take into consideration multiple parameters, such as the expected functionalities, the properties that are untradeable, or the suitable technologies. Patterns are abstractions that guide the design of architectures to reach the requirements. One of the famous patterns is the Lambda Architecture, which proposes real-time computations with correctness and fault-tolerance guarantees. But the Lambda has also been highly criticized, mostly because of its complexity and because the real-time and correctness properties are each effective in a different layer but not in the overall architecture. Furthermore, its use cases a…

The clustering of galaxies in the SDSS-III Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey: Measuring D_A and H at z=0.57 from the Baryon Acoustic Peak in th…

2014

We present measurements of the angular diameter distance to and Hubble parameter at z = 0.57 from the measurement of the baryon acoustic peak in the correlation of galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey III Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey. Our analysis is based on a sample from Data Release 9 of 264 283 galaxies over 3275 square degrees in the redshift range 0.43 z DA(0.57) = 1408 ± 45 Mpc and H(0.57) = 92.9 ± 7.8 km s-1 Mpc-1 for our fiducial value of the sound horizon. These results from the anisotropic fitting are fully consistent with the analysis of the spherically averaged acoustic peak position presented in Anderson et al. Our distance measurements are a close match to th…

Testing theories of Gravity and Supergravity with inflation and observations of the cosmic microwave background

2016

Many extensions of Einstein's theory of gravity have been studied and proposed with various motivations like the quest for a quantum theory of gravity to extensions of anomalies in observations at the solar system, galactic and cosmological scales. These extensions include adding higher powers of Ricci curvature $R$, coupling the Ricci curvature with scalar fields and generalized functions of $R$. In addition when viewed from the perspective of Supergravity (SUGRA) many of these theories may originate from the same SUGRA theory interpreted in different frames. SUGRA therefore serves as a good framework for organizing and generalizing theories of gravity beyond General Relativity. All these …
