A Lost Opportunity to Parliamentarize The European Commission : Bagehot, Weber and a Debate in 1960

The article emphasizes the significance of EU studies for political thought and concepts. It deals with the seemingly technical topic of the membership of cabinet ministers in parliament. This practice arose in eighteenth-century Westminster and has been discussed since the mid-nineteenth century, Walter Bagehot's and Max Weber's writings being landmarks. When the European Parliamentary Assembly in 1960 interpreted the Treaty of Rome, it took the view, by a narrow margin, that membership of the Parliament was incompatible with membership of the Commission. The debate on the compatibility of dual membership could have been a way to promote the parliamentarization of the EU. peerReviewed
Ensemble deep clustering analysis for time window determination of event-related potentials

Objective Cluster analysis of spatio-temporal event-related potential (ERP) data is a promising tool for exploring the measurement time window of ERPs. However, even after preprocessing, the remaining noise can result in uncertain cluster maps followed by unreliable time windows while clustering via conventional clustering methods. Methods We designed an ensemble deep clustering pipeline to determine a reliable time window for the ERP of interest from temporal concatenated grand average ERP data. Abstract Coworking spaces have been established in great numbers around the globe over the past 10 years. Previous studies on coworking spaces argue that these spaces are designed to enable serendipitous encounters. Here we introduce the concept of an economy of encounters, arguing that both intended and unintended encounters have become a form of production in the knowledge-based new economy. This thesis focuses on studying phononic crystal structures. More specifically, it is aimed at fabrication and measurement of thermal properties of two-dimensional (2D) periodic microstructures and three-dimensional (3D) nanostructures. There is great interest in understanding, manipulating and considering application perspective of minimizing of thermal transport in periodic structures. Periodic structures have been studied more on their optical properties, but this thesis places emphasis on their application of manipulating heat. Krāsu ansambļu pielietojumi sarkani-zaļā oponentā mehānisma izpētē

Darbs ir uzrakstīts latviešu valodā uz 31 lapaspusēm. Tas satur 16 attēlus, 2 tabulas un 24 atsauces uz literatūras avotiem. Bakalaura darbā tika izveidota metode, ar kuru var noskaidrot sarkan-zaļā krāsu mehānisma jutību, izmantojot krāsu ansambļus. Pētījumā piedalījās 10 dalībnieki vecumā no 21 līdz 28 gadiem. Ar 4AFC metodi tika noteikts kontrasta slieksnis, pie kura vēl ir iespējams saskatīt hromatisko stimulu atšķirības. Atslēgvārdi: kontrasta slieksnis, krāsu ansamblis, sarkani-zaļais kanāls, piesātinājums.
Krāsu redze bērniem ar ambliopiju

Bakalaura darbs ir uzrakstīts latviešu valodā uz 34 lappusēm. Tas satur 19 attēlus, 1 tabulu, 80 atsauces uz literatūras avotiem un 2 pielikumus. Darba mērķis ir noskaidrot, vai bērniem ar ambliopiju ir krāsu redzes deficīts. Pētījumā piedalījās 40 dalībnieki: 20 bērni bez ambliopija un 20 bērni, kuriem ir ambliopija. Pētījuma dalībniekiem tika veikta krāsu redzes novērtēšana ar Išihara testu un datorizētu krāsu redzes testu, atkarībā no mērķa leņķiskā izmēra. Išihara testā bērniem tika lūgts atpazīt skaitli, bet datorizētā testā – mērķa novietojumu. Pētījumā tika konstatēts, ka bērniem ar ambliopiju samazinot mērķa leņķisko izmēru parādās krāsu redzes deficīts.

In my dissertation I have traced novel routes to village research by examining the transformation of the villages through the concepts of temporality and materiality. My research questions are: What kind of temporal trajectories have formed the villages? What kind of things, events, processes or connections have in the course of time been part of the village? I examine the transformations having taken place along various trajectories and focus on how the past and the future are related in the present in certain moments. Innovative, Translucent and Multi-functional Components for the Building Envelope: technological and performance optimization

The paper describes the actions aimed at the technology and performance optimization of an innovative, multi-functional building component made of precast and pre-stressed glass blocks useful for the construction of sustainable building envelopes able to reduce the energy consumption and to produce clean energy from the sun. The design optimization of different sub-components and the choice of the right materials for guaranteeing their good response in terms of mechanical resistance, thermal and acoustic insulation, light transmission, electricity production, integration with other components, dimensional coordination, are particularly described.
