Objectives: To assess the rates of co-occurring putative ‘behavioural addictions’ in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Methods: Twenty-three international centres specialising in the treatment of OCD were invited to participate in a survey of the rates of behavioural addictions and other relevant comorbidity within their samples. Results: Sixteen of 23 (69.6%) invited centres from 13 countries had sufficient data to participate in the survey. The use of validated diagnostic tools was discrepant, with most centres relying on a ‘clinical diagnosis’ to diagnose behavioural addictions. Abstract Villous atrophy in absence of coeliac disease (CD)-specific antibodies represents a diagnostic dilemma. We report a case of a woman with anaemia, weight loss and diarrhoea with an initial diagnosis of seronegative CD and a histological documented villous atrophy who did not improve on gluten-free diet due to the concomitant presence of common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) and Giardia lamblia infection. This case report confirms that CD diagnosis in CVID patients is difficult; the combination of anti-endomysial antibodies (EmA-IgA), anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG-IgAb) antibodies and total IgA is obligatory in basic diagnostic of CD but in CVID are negative. Purpose To study the effect of simulated amblyopic and normal higher-order aberrations on visual performance of normal eyes. Methods To assess visual function, an adaptive optics visual simulator was used to compensate volunteers' ocular aberrations and simulate the wavefront aberration patterns found in healthy and amblyopic eyes in 7 healthy individuals. Visual acuity for high (100%), medium (50%), and low (10%) contrast and contrast sensitivity at 10, 20, and 25 cycles per degree (cpd) were measured after simulation of both pattern aberrations. The self-assembly of amphiphilic Janus colloids in microfluidic channels is studied using hybrid molecular dynamics simulations with fully resolved hydrodynamic interactions incorporated through the multi-particle collision dynamics algorithm. The simulations are conducted at a density and temperature where the Janus particles spontaneously self-assemble into spherical micelles to minimize the interface between the solvophobic caps and the surrounding solvent. The self-assembling of sodium bis (2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate (AOT) in gas phase has been investigated by electrospray ionization- and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry. Large surfactant clusters with an aggregation number close to that found in apolar media have been observed either as positive or negative ions. Moreover, the marked predominance of singly charged species as well as preliminary theoretical calculations strongly suggest an aggregate structure characterized by an internal hydrophilic core hosting the extra charge surrounded by an apolar shell constituted by the surfactant alkyl chains. Subjective memory complaints (SMCs) may affect decision-making processes. This study aimed to investigate the neuronal correlates of feedback processing during a decision-making task in young and older adults with and without SMCs. Event-related potentials and behavioral performance during the Iowa gambling task were recorded in a total of 136 participants (65 young adults, 71 older adults). The participants were divided into two groups according to their SMCs (with SMCs: n = 60, without SMCs: n = 76). For functional diversity, the large (L) envelope protein of hepatitis B virus (HBV) acquires a dual transmembrane topology via co-translational membrane integration of the S region and partial post-translational translocation of the preS subdomain. This study aims at the assessment of alexithymia and anger levels in 100 treatment-seeking pathological gamblers compared with controls, who were matched for age, gender and education. Furthermore a positive correlation between alexithymia, anger and severity of gambling disorder and a relationship between gambling behaviour and anger after controlling for alexithymia, are investigated. Finally the role that gender plays in anger in pathological gamblers was also evaluated. Comorbid psychopathological syndromes are common in pathological gamblers (PGs), but the contribution of alexithymia, as a disorder of affect regulation, has not been fully explored yet. This study sought to examine the association between personality disorders, clinical syndromes and alexithymia levels in a group of PGs and to highlight a relationship between gambling behaviour and alexithymia scores, apart from the relationship between other disorders and gambling behaviour.
