Processing of procollagen III by meprins: new players in extracellular matrix assembly?

Meprins α and β, a subgroup of zinc metalloproteinases belonging to the astacin family, are known to cleave components of the extracellular matrix, either during physiological remodeling or in pathological situations. In this study we present a new role for meprins in matrix assembly, namely the proteolytic processing of procollagens. Both meprins α and β release the N- and C-propeptides from procollagen III, with such processing events being critical steps in collagen fibril formation. In addition, both meprins cleave procollagen III at exactly the same site as the procollagen C-proteinases, including bone morphogenetic protein-1 (BMP-1) and other members of the tolloid proteinase family. …

Formation Kinetics of Mixed Self-Assembled Monolayers of Alkanethiols on GaAs(100)

International audience; We report on the formation kinetics of mixed self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) comprising 16-mercaptohexadecanoic acid (MHDA) and 11-mercapto-1-undecanol (MUDO) thiols on GaAs(100) substrates. These compounds were selected for their potential in constructing highly selective and efficient architectures for biosensing applications. The molecular composition and quality of one-compound and mixed SAMs were determined by the Fourier transform infrared absorption spectroscopy measurements. Darbā tiek pētīta atomāra ansambļa uzvedība, ja tas atrodas divu lāzeru ar mazliet atšķirīgām frekvencēm laukā. Šādā situācijā tiek ierosinātas koherentās apdzīvotības oscilācijas - ansamblī notiek periodiskas, nerimstošas svārstības, kuru periods sakrīt ar lāzeru frekvenču starpībai atbilstošo periodu. Apskatot divu līmeņu sistēmu, skaitliski tiek iegūta ansambļa apdzīvotību un koherences atkarība no laika un tad, izmantojot Bloha sfēru, tiek analizēta šo atrisinājumu atkarība no abu lāzeru amplitūdu attiecības un abu lāzeru frekvenču nobīdes no atomārās pārejas rezonanses frekvences. Label Ranking (LR) is a non-standard supervised classification method with the aim of ranking a finite collection of labels according to a set of predictor variables. Traditional LR models assume indifference among alternatives. However, misassigning the ranking position of a highly relevant label is frequently regarded as more severe than failing to predict a trivial label. Moreover, switching two similar alternatives should be considered less severe than switching two different ones.
