The lower and middle Pleistocene geological record of the San Lorenzo lacustrine succession in the Sant’Arcangelo Basin (Southern Apennines, Italy)
2005
The Sant’Arcangelo Basin is located in the southern part of the Apennine chain (Basilicata). It is filled by a siliciclastic sequence 3500m thick, dated to the Late Pliocene–Middle Pleistocene time interval. In this basin an Early Middle Pleistocene fluvio-lacustrine sequence, known as San Lorenzo Cycle, has been recognised. In the upper part of the sequence, in Rifreddo, a fairly diversified small vertebrate assemblage has been recovered. The occurrence of Mimomys savini allows to the fauna to be considered as Biharian. The presence of some faunal elements such as Microtus (Terricola) arvalidens, Microtus (Iberomys) ex gr. huescarensis-brecciensis, and Macroneomys cf. brachygnathus restric…
Quantum scrambling via accessible tripartite information
2023
Quantum information scrambling (QIS), from the perspective of quantum information theory, is generally understood as local non-retrievability of information evolved through some dynamical process, and is often quantified via entropic quantities such as the tripartite information. We argue that this approach comes with a number of issues, in large part due to its reliance on quantum mutual informations, which do not faithfully quantify correlations directly retrievable via measurements, and in part due to the specific methodology used to compute tripartite informations of the studied dynamics. We show that these issues can be overcome by using accessible mutual informations, defining corresp…
Miega artērijas audzēju ķirurģiska ārstēšana Latvijā no 2010. līdz 2015.gadam
2016
Assembly of fluorescent chimeric virus-like particles of canine parvovirus in insect cells
2004
Canine parvovirus (CPV) is a small non-enveloped ssDNA virus composed of the viral proteins VP1, VP2, and VP3 with a T=1 icosahedral symmetry. VP2 is nested in VP1 and the two proteins are produced by differential splicing of a primary transcript of the right ORF of the viral genome. The VP2 protein can be further proteolytically cleaved to form VP3. Previous studies have shown that VP1 and VP3 are unnecessary for capsid formation and consequently, that VP2 alone is sufficient for assembly. We have hypothesized that insertion of the enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) at the N-terminus of VP2 could be carried out without altering assembly. To investigate the possibility to develop flu…
Psychological assessment in pathological gamblers treated with escitalopram
2013
Pathological Gambling (PG) is classified as a "Disorder of Impulse Control", but due to similarities with drug addiction is frequently described as a drug-free addiction (Potenza et al., 2012). PG is conceptualized as a behavioural addiction because of its neurobiologic, neurophysiologic and psychological features. Current therapeutical approaches seem unsatisfactory as they do not achieve definitive positive outcomes. Considering the well known psycopathological comorbidities, PG represents both a social (impact on relatives money/life) and a sanitary cost, in terms of pharmacological and psychological support. The compulsive behaviour detectable in PG, is a disease with neurophysiopatholo…

Ocular Refraction at Birth and Its Development During the First Year of Life in a Large Cohort of Babies in a Single Center in Northern Italy
2020
The purpose of this study was to investigate refraction at birth and during the first year of life in a large cohort of babies born in a single center in Northern Italy. We also aimed to analyze refractive errors in relation to the gestational age at birth. An observational ophthalmological assessment was performed within 24 h of birth on 12,427 newborns. Refraction was examined using streak retinoscopy after the administration of tropicamide (1%). Values in the range of between +0.50 ≤ D ≤ +4.00 were defined as physiological refraction at birth. Newborns with refraction values outside of the physiological range were followed up during the first year of life. Comparative analyses were condu…
Methotrexate as a treatment in ocular cicatricial moderate pemphigoid.
2013
Abstract Clinical case A 73 year-old woman presented with a history of non-specific symptoms and photophobia in both eyes of 1 year progression. The examination revealed a bilateral symblepharon and fornix shortening. Immunohistochemical analysis confirmed the presence of linear deposits of IgG, IgM and C3 along the conjunctival basement membrane. With the diagnosis of ocular cicatricial pemphigoid, systemic treatment with subcutaneous methotrexate was prescribed. Discussion We consider such treatment a very effective initial immunosuppressive alternative in patients with moderate conjunctival inflammation and in cases of rapid progression.
Recent Exploits of the ISOLTRAP Mass Spectrometer
2013
Abstract The Penning-trap mass spectrometer ISOLTRAP, located at the isotope-separator facility ISOLDE (CERN), is presented in its current form taking into account technical developments since 2007. Three areas of developments are presented. The reference ion sources have been modified to guarantee a sufficient supply of reference ions for mass measurements and systematic studies. Different excitation schemes have been investigated for manipulation of the ion motion in the Penning trap, to enhance either the purification or measurement process. A multi-reflection time-of-flight mass separator has been implemented and can now be routinely used for purification and as a versatile tool for bea…
