The role of slabs and oceanic plate geometry in the net rotation of the lithosphere, trench motions, and slab return flow

2012

International audience; [1] Absolute plate motion models with respect to a deep mantle reference frame (e.g., hot spots) typically contain some net rotation (NR) of the lithosphere. Global mantle flow models for the present-day plate setting reproduce similarly oriented NRs but with amplitudes significantly smaller than those found in some high NR Pacific hot spot reference frames. It is therefore important to understand the mechanisms of NR excitation, which we attempt here with two-dimensional cylindrical models of an idealized Pacific domain. We study the influence of slab properties, oceanic ridge position, continental keels, and a weak asthenospheric layer on NR and trench migration. F…

Some Plant Defense Stimulators can induce IL-1β production in human immune cells in vitro

2020

8 pages; International audience; Among Plant Protection Products (PPP), a new emerging category of pesticides act by stimulating plant defense in order to improve plant resistance against microbial pathogens. Given that these compounds, the so-called Plant Defense Stimulators (PDS) act on innate immunity, we tested, using an in vitro approach on human mononuclear leucocytes (PBMC), the potential toxicity (XTT assay) and inflammatory effects (production of IL-1β) of 4 PPP belonging to different chemical families. We found that two products (LBG-01F34® and Regalis®) did not induce any cytotoxicity or IL-1 β production. The product BION-50 WG®, that contains Acibenzolar-S-methyl (ASM) and sili…

Design and evaluation of a creation of the demand model in order to increase voluntary medical male circumcision among adults in a South African comm…

2017

Three randomized controlled trials showed the protective role of circumcision in heterosexual HIV transmission. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Joint United Nations Program on AIDS (UNAIDS) recommend that voluntary male medical circumcision (VMMC) programs should be rolled-out wherever there is a generalized HIV epidemic and few men are circumcised. WHO recommends a prevalence rate of at least 80% male circumcision in adults to have a substantial impact on the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Eastern and Southern Africa. Starting in 2007 in the fourteen Southern and Eastern Africa countries identified as priority countries, the programs to promote the CVME have allowed a rapid increase of t…

Isolated lung perfusion with chemotherapy in a pig model

2014

Introduction: The isolated lung perfusion (ILP) is an experimental technique which main objective is to deliver high dose of cytotoxic agent to the lung tissue without systemic exposure. The thesis took place in three stages: first stage, setting in vitro the chemotherapy the most efficient against colorectal cancer (CCR) cells in 30 min. Second stage, develop the ILP technique in a pig model. Third stage, lead a dose escalation study with chemotherapy by ILP.Methods: First stage, efficacy of various cytotoxic molecules against a panel of human CCR cell lines was tested in vitro after a 30-minute exposure. Second stage, pigs were treated with chemotherapy delivered by ILP during 30 minutes …

Astrocytes and hypothalamic glucose sensing: metabolic role and involvement of astroglial connexins

2012

The hypothalamus plays a pivotal role in the nervous control of glucose homeostasis. This area contains gluco-sensitive neurons. Some of them detect increases in glucose levels and regulate glucose homeostasis by stimulating insulin secretion or inhibiting food intake. It is widely accepted that astrocytes are metabolically coupled to neurons. Lactate, resulting from the metabolism of glucose by astrocytes, is transported via the monocarboxylate transporters (MCTs). In addition, gap junctions (GJ), that form networks within astrocytes, are essential to transfer glucose from the bloodstream to the active neurons. These astroglial GJ mainly consist of connexins 43 and 30 (Cxs). The aims of my …
