In vitro modeļa izveide ļaundabīgā audzēja ekstracelulāro vezīkulu endocitozes pētīšanai mezenhimālajās šūnās

2016

Measurement of the SMC muon beam polarisation using the asymmetry in the elastic scattering off polarised electrons

2000

A muon beam polarimeter was built for the SMC experiment at the CERN SPS, for beam energies of 100 and 190 GeV. The beam polarisation is determined from the asymmetry in the elastic scattering off the polarised electrons of a ferromagnetic target whose magnetisation is periodically reversed. At muon energies of 100 and 190 GeV the measured polarisation is P-mu = -0.80 +/- 0.03 (stat.) +/- 0.02 (syst.) and P-mu = - 0.797 +/- 0.011 (stat.) +/- 0.012 (syst.), respectively. These results agree with measurements of the beam polarisation using a shape analysis of the decay positron energy spectrum. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Development of a New Clusterization Method for the GEM-TPC Detector

2022

The Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research FAIR, in Darmstadt Germany, will be one of the largest accelerator laboratories worldwide. The Superconducting FRagment Separator (Super-FRS)* is one of its main components. The Super-FRS can produce, separate and deliver high-energy radioactive beams with intensities up to 1e11 ions/s, covering projectiles from protons up to uranium and it can be used as an independent experimental device. The Gas Electron Multiplier-based Time Projection Chambers (GEM-TPC) in twin configuration is a newly developed beam tracking detector capable of providing spatial resolution of less than 1 mm with a tracking efficiency close to 100% at 1 MHz counting rate. Th…

RASSF1A inhibits estrogen receptor alpha expression and estrogen-independent signalling: implications for breast cancer development

2012

The Ras association domain family 1 isoform A (RASSF1A) is a tumor suppressor whose inactivation is implicated in the development of many human cancers, including breast carcinomas. Little is known about the tumor-suppressive function of RASSF1A in breast tissue and whether its inactivation is mechanistically involved in the initiation and progression of breast tumors. Here, we show that RASSF1A inhibits breast cancer growth in vivo, and suppresses estrogen receptor (ERα) expression and function. Reconstitution of RASSF1A in MCF7 cells led to decreased ERα levels and reduced sensitivity to estrogen (E2). Concomitantly, we observed decreased expression of Id1 as well as the E2-responsive gen…

Screening for Low Energy Availability in Male Athletes: Attempted Validation of LEAM-Q

2022

A questionnaire-based screening tool for male athletes at risk of low energy availability (LEA) could facilitate both research and clinical practice. The present options rely on proxies for LEA such screening tools for disordered eating, exercise dependence, or those validated in female athlete populations. in which the female-specific sections are excluded. To overcome these limitations and support progress in understanding LEA in males, centres in Australia, Norway, Denmark, and Sweden collaborated to develop a screening tool (LEAM-Q) based on clinical investigations of elite and sub-elite male athletes from multiple countries and ethnicities, and a variety of endurance and weight-sensiti…

TAGS measurements for neutrino physics and applications

2017

A hybrid MCDM approach for ranking suppliers by considering ethical factors

2016

One of the negative effects of cooperating with un-ethically behaving suppliers is that it may devastate the companies' credibility among employees, customers and the public. In this paper, a hybrid Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) approach (Disjunctive-WPM method) is proposed to resolve this limitation. The proposed methods consist of the following steps: 1. drop unethical solutions and 2. rank the remaining solutions. Therefore, the aim of this paper is the application of the DisjunctiveWPM method to supplier selection problem by adding ethical factors into the analysis. In addition, a comparative analysis to the traditional WMP method is carried out. The proposed method appears t…

Exploring Moderators of the Effect of High vs. Low-to-Moderate Intensity Exercise on Cardiorespiratory Fitness During Breast Cancer Treatment – Analy…

2022

IntroductionThe results from the physical training and cancer randomized controlled trial (Phys-Can RCT) indicate that high intensity (HI) strength and endurance training during (neo-)adjuvant cancer treatment is more beneficial for cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF, measured as peak oxygen uptake [VO2peak]) than low-to-moderate intensity (LMI) exercise. Adherence to the exercise intervention and demographic or clinical characteristics of patients with breast cancer undergoing adjuvant treatment may moderate the exercise intervention effect on VO2peak. In this study, the objective was to investigate whether baseline values of VO2peak, body mass index (BMI), time spent in moderate- to vigorous-…
