It focuses on how the motif of the coastline is depicted and remediated in the works of English artists Paul Nash and Dave McKean: between 1919 and 1925, as he was coming to terms with the aftermath of the First World War, Nash created a series of pictures depicting Dymchurch on the coast of Kent in England; McKean’s 2016 commemorative graphic novel Black Dog: The Dreams of Paul Nash is a biographical exploration of Nash’s youth, of his experience of the war and of his recovery in the immediate post-war period. This groundbreaking study focuses on the link between music-therapy and narrativity in a pediatric hematology-oncology unit. The goal is to observe and analyse the psychic processes in this therapeutic mediation. We aim to study the creative processes through the narrative productions of a sick and hospitalized teenagers. The interest of this original work with regard to previous research is to focus on the internal mechanisms of the patient and his narrative identity rather than on the active ingredient and the therapeutic method itself or its effect on a particular symptom. Making Sociologically-Grounded Fictions. A Review of the Sociorama Collection Experience

As members of the scientific committee of a collection of sociological comic strips, we offer feedback here on our experience of translating qualitative sociological research into graphic fictions. Through the presentation of main editorial choices and the organization of the adaptation work, we explain and discuss the effects produced by this type of adaptation on sociological discourse. We present a “lesson learned” from this adaptation process that disrupted and challenged the inherent assumptions of academic sociological writing. This review of Sociorama albums highlights some advantages and successes, as well as some limitations and obstacles introduced by this comic-ization.

Birth weight, adult weight, and cardiovascular biomarkers : Evidence from the Cardiovascular Young Finns Study

This study quantifies the causal effect of birth weight on cardiovascular biomarkers in adulthood using the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study (YFS). We apply a multivariable Mendelian randomization (MVMR) method that provides a novel approach to improve inference in causal analysis based on a mediation framework. The results show that birth weight is linked to triglyceride levels (β = −0.294; 95% CI [−0.591, 0.003]) but not to low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels (β = 0.007; 95% CI [−0.168, 0.183]). The total effect of birth weight on triglyceride levels is partly offset by a mediation pathway linking birth weight to adult BMI (β = 0.111; 95% CI [−0.013, 0.234]). The nega…
