Problem Talk in Management Group Meetings

This naturalistic study focuses on problem talk (PT) in hospital management group meetings. The study aims to understand how PT constitutes the hospital organization through the different uses of PT within the meetings, and, therefore, to understand the organizing role of these meetings. The communication as constitutive of organization (CCO) perspective forms the theoretical background of the research. The results of the qualitative analysis show that PT comprises many intertwined tasks that aim to perform the meetings, enhance problem solving, and maintain the relational level of group life. Oxfordissa pidettiin 17.–19. syyskuuta kuluvan vuoden merkittävin magian, esoteeristen alojen ja taikauskon tutkimuksen kansainvälinen konferenssi Living in a Magical World: Inner Lives, 1300–1900. Samaan aikaan Oxfordin Ashmolean Museumissa pyörii yhteistyössä konferenssijärjestäjien kanssa kuratoitu näyttely Spellbound. Magic, Ritual, Witchcraft (31.8.2018 – 6.1.2019), jossa on esillä laaja valikoima magian ja taikauskon historiaa keskiajalta 1900-luvulle. Coordinating action in technology-supported shared tasks: Virtual pointing as a situated practice for mobilizing a response

Drawing on recordings of remote screen-based work meetings in Finland, this conversation analytic study investigates interactive properties of mouse cursor movements in technology-mediated shared tasks. The article illustrates how participants rely on features afforded by the input device in ways that divert from its pre-designed functions to accomplish virtual pointing gestures. These gestures serve as an organizational resource in the precursory phase of action, i.e. when a next on-screen action is observably made relevant. Transmission delay in technology-mediated interaction at work

This paper investigates transmission delay in technology-mediated interaction from a participant’s perspective. The approach chosen here contrasts with previous studies of delay: only what is seen, heard and done at one end (i.e., what is available on screen) is considered in the analysis. It is argued that participants themselves lack access to the other sides of their interactions as they unfold at remote locations, and they thus cannot observe and deal with delay from an outside perspective.
