Detection of the human brain activity with fundamental solution method
2018
Human brain activity mapping is a fundamental task for the neurophysiological research and for the diagnostic purposes too. Non-invasive techniques such as Electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetoencephalography (MEG) allow the reconstruction of the cerebral electrical currents providing useful information on the neuronal activity in the human brain. Based on a typical inverse problem the M/EEG imaging techniques require to solve more times a forward one. In this paper we discuss on a numerical tool based on the Method of the Fundamental Solutions(MFS) to efficiently solve the M/EEG forward problem going over the BEM state-of-the-art procedure. Inspired by the Leave-One-Out Cross Validation…
Nutritional prevention of cognitive decline and dementia.
2018
Cognitive impairment results from a complex interplay of many factors. The most important independent predictor of cognitive decline is age but other contributing factors include demographic, genetic, socio-economic, and environmental parameters, including nutrition. The number of persons with cognitive decline and dementia will increase in the next decades in parallel with aging of the world population. Effective pharmaceutical treatments for age-related cognitive decline are lacking, emphasizing the importance of prevention strategies. There is extensive evidence supporting a relationship between diet and cognitive functions. Thus, nutritional approaches to prevent or slow cognitive decli…
Systematic review: macrophage activation syndrome in inflammatory bowel disease.
2013
Summary Background Recently, there have been increasingly frequent reports on the occurrence of macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Clinically, MAS is characterized mainly by fever, hepatosplenomegaly, cytopenia, and elevated circulating ferritin and CD25. Mortality, even if diagnosed rapidly, is high. Aim To identify all reports on MAS in IBD and to establish data on triggering agents, immunosuppression leading to MAS, and mortality. Methods A language unrestricted search on Pubmed and Scopus relating to the past 30 years was carried out by matching the following search-terms: h(a)emophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis OR h(a)emophagocytic lym…
PROFILASSI UNIVERSALE CONTRO IL CITOMEGALOVIRUS CON VALGANCICLOVIR NEI SOGGETTI RICEVENTI TRAPIANTO DI RENE
2009
SUPERIOR MESENTERIC VEIN THROMBOSIS AND CYTOMEGAOLOVIRUS: A DIAGNOSTIC DILEMMA, A CASE REPORT AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE
2014
Superior mesenteric vein thrombosis (SMVT) is a rare condition, usually caused by infections, intra-abdominal inflammatory diseases, portal hypertension, hypercoagulable states, or contraceptive therapy. Due to its vague symptomatology, SMVT is often diagnosed only after an abdominal contrast-enhanced computed computed tomography (CT) scan. In this article, we present a case of SMVT in a patient with a history of contraceptive drug use and a recent cytomegalovirus infection. A 36-year-old female was admitted to our department with the clinical symptoms of an acute appendicitis. the patient was a smoker and had been using hormonal contraceptive for over a year. surgery was deemed the best co…

Central Corneal Thickness in patients with acromegaly
2011
Introduction Acromegaly is hormonal disorder caused by excessive growth hormone (GH) by the pituitary gland, this results in anatomical changes in many organs and also in the eye and specially in cornea. Objective To perform a connection between the disease activity and the corneal changes Matériels et Méthodes In 28 patients with acromegaly and in 22 voluntary healthy the central corneal thickness (CCT) was measured by pachymeter. And the patients were divided in 2 groups: the first (“group A”) contains 13 cases with not controlled acromegaly; and the other one (“group B”) is related to 15 patients with controlled acromegaly Résultats Patients with acromegaly have a central corneal thickne…
