pKa at Quartz/Electrolyte Interfaces.
2016
Acidity of silanol sites at the crystalline quartz/aqueous electrolyte (NaCl, NaI, KCl) interfaces are calculated from ab initio molecular dynamics simulations. pKa’s are found to follow a combination of the cationic and anionic Hofmeister series in the order pKa(neat solution) < pKa(NaCl) < pKa(NaI) < pKa(KCl), in agreement with experimental measurements. Rationalization of this ranking is achieved in terms of the microscopic local solvation of the protonated silanols and their conjugated bases, the silanolates SiO–. The change in the pKa is the result of both water destructuring by alkali halides, as well as of the specific cation/SiO– interaction, depending on the electrolyte. M…
Gauge theory of the long-range proximity effect and spontaneous currents in superconducting heterostructures with strong ferromagnets
2017
We present the generalized quasiclassical theory of the long-range superconducting proximity effect in heterostructures with strong ferromagnets, where the exchange splitting is of the order of Fermi energy. In the ferromagnet the propagation of equal-spin Cooper pairs residing on the spin-split Fermi surfaces is shown to be governed by the spin-dependent Abelian gauge field which results either from the spin-orbital coupling or from the magnetic texture. This additional gauge field enters into the quasiclassical equations in superposition with the usual electromagnetic vector potential and results in the generation of spontaneous superconducting currents and phase shifts in various geometr…
Observation of interaction forces by investigation of the influence of eluent additives on the retention behavior of aqueous nanoparticle dispersions…
2020
The investigation and subsequent understanding of the interactions of nanomaterials with components of their surrounding media is important to be able to evaluate both potential use cases as well as potential risks for human health and for the environment. To investigate such interactions, asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation (AF4) is an interesting analytical tool. This statement grounds on the fact that interactions of the analyte with the membrane and with components of the eluent are crucial for the retention behavior of the analyte within the field-flow fractionation (FFF) channel. Therefore, the investigation of the retention behavior provides an insight in the nature of the int…
Ferromagnetic gyroscopes for tests of fundamental physics
2020
A ferromagnetic gyroscope (FG) is a ferromagnet whose angular momentum is dominated by electron spin polarization and that will precess under the action of an external torque, such as that due to a magnetic field. Here we model and analyze FG dynamics and sensitivity, focusing on practical schemes for experimental realization. In the case of a freely floating FG, we model the transition from dynamics dominated by libration in relatively high externally applied magnetic fields, to those dominated by precession at relatively low applied fields. Measurement of the libration frequency enables in situ measurement of the magnetic field and a technique to reduce the field below the threshold for w…
Anionic Organic Guests Incorporated in Zeolites: Adsorption and Reactivity of a Meisenheimer Complex in Faujasites
2005
Zeolites are suitable microporous hosts for positively charged organic species, but it is believed that they cannot adsorb organic anions. Pure Meisenheimer complex, derived from reduction of 2,4-dinitroaniline with NaBH4, was adsorbed inside faujasite cavities. Evidence for the internal incorporation of this negatively charged reaction intermediate comes from 1) XPS elemental analysis as a function of the depth of penetration into the particle, 2) the remarkable blue shift in lambda(max) of the Meisenheimer complex adsorbed on zeolite (ca. 470 nm) as compared to that in acetonitrile (580 nm) and 3) from the lack of reactivity with size-excluded hydride-acceptor reagents. Evidence is provid…
Water Structure Recovery in Chaotropic Anion Recognition: High-Affinity Binding of Dodecaborate Clusters to γ-Cyclodextrin
2015
Dodecaborate anions of the type B12X12(2-) and B12X11Y(2-) (X=H, Cl, Br, I and Y=OH, SH, NH3(+), NR3(+)) form strong (K(a) up to 10(6) L mol(-1), for B12Br12(2-)) inclusion complexes with γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CD). The micromolar affinities reached are the highest known for this native CD. The complexation exhibits highly negative enthalpies (up to -25 kcal mol(-1)) and entropies (TΔS up to -18.4 kcal mol(-1), both for B12I12(2-)), which position these guests at the bottom end of the well-known enthalpy-entropy correlation for CDs. The high driving force can be traced back to a chaotropic effect, according to which chaotropic anions have an intrinsic affinity to hydrophobic cavities in aqueous …
Innovazione/integrazione attraverso innesti a forte connotazione estetica ispirati all'alfabeto ebraico, ai suoi rapporti culturali e significati simbolici.
Askēzes fenomenoloģija vācu un bizantiešu misticismā. Meistera Ekharta un Gregora Palamasa meditācijas doktrīnas salīdzinošā analīze
2022
Effect of the Alkaline Cations on the Stability of the Model Polynucleotide Poly(dG-dC)·Poly(dG-dC)
2011
When the model polynucleotide poly(dG-dC)∙poly(dG-dC) [polyGC] is titrated with a strong acid (HCl) in unbuffered aqueous solutions containing the chlorides of the alkali metals in the concentration range 0.010 M-0.600 M, two transitions in the absorbance vs. pH plots are evidenced, characterized by the constants pK(a(₁)) and pK(a(₂)). The limiting values at infinite saline concentrations of these two constants, namely pK(∞)(a(₁)) and pK(∞)(a(₂)) obtained making use of the "one site saturation constant" equation or, in turn, of the double logarithmic plot: pK(a) vs. log([salt]⁻¹), exhibit a clear dependence on the nature of the cations. The effects of the different alkali cations on the pK(…
"Abgeschiedenheit" Mistrza Eckharta w fenomenologicznej wykładni Bernharda Weltego
2016
Abgeschiedenheit Meister Eckhart in the phenomenological interpretation of Bernhard Welte: The basis of analyzes carried out in the article is the work of Bernhard Welte: Meister Eckhart. Gedanken zu seinen Gedanken. The central subject of research is the i&za. Abgeschiedenheit (“isolation”). Following the interpretation ofWelte it has been considerated a phenomenological description on two ways. From the practical experience, as a modus vivendi a religious man, and from the theoretical, as speculative thought. Theoretical considerations consist of analysis of the concept of tru th and goodness, which Eckhart identifies with the idea of God. Welte shows that these concepts of medieval think…
