Working memory, intelligence and knowledge base in adult persons with intellectual disability

2002

Abstract Previous studies have suggested that performance in working memory (WM) tasks is deficient in all etiologies and at all levels of intellectual disability (ID). Knowledge about WM structure, cognitive processes reflected in WM tasks, or the long-term memory contribution to WM capacity in ID is, however, not satisfactory. In the present study, WM capacity, WM task requirements, as well as effects between WM, skills, knowledge base, and intelligence were explored in two groups with matched fluid intelligence: adult persons with ID and normally developing children aged 3–6 years. The ID Group performed equally well as the children in WM tasks based on familiar semantic information and …

Serial position effects in dementia of the Alzheimer type.

1998

Background: The aim of the present study was to analyse serial position effects for immediate and delayed free recall in patients with dementia of the Alzheimer type and controls. Experiment 1: 44 patients with dementia of the Alzheimer-type and 24 non-demented controls were asked for immediate and delayed free recall of 12 schematic drawings of common objects presented at the rate of 10 s/picture. Steep primacy effects were obtained at all delays in controls. By contrast, primacy effects were significantly impaired in patients with dementia at all delays of recall. Small immediate and delayed recall recency effects were found in both, patients and cont…

Delirium assessed by Memorial Delirium Assessment Scale in advanced cancer patients admitted to an acute palliative/supportive care unit

2017

Background: Delirium is often unrecognized in cancer patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of delirium assessed by the Memorial Delirium Assessment Scale (MDAS) and possible associated factors on admission to an acute palliative/supportive care unit (APSCU). The secondary outcome was to assess changes in MDAS and symptom burden at time of discharge. Methods: A consecutive sample of advanced cancer patients who were admitted to an APSCU was prospectively assessed for a period of 10 months. Patient demographics, including age, gender, primary diagnosis, Karnofsky status, stage of disease, and educational level were collected. The Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale (…

Psychometric Analysis of the Selective Reminding Procedure in a Sample from the General Elderly Population

2000

The selective reminding procedure (SRP) has been proposed for the assessment of distinct aspects of episodic memory, i.e. storage to and retrieval from short-term and long-term memory, item learning and list learning, and as dementia screening tool. In the present study SRP results were analysed in 256 probands from the general elderly population. SRP scores were highly intercorrelated, and principal component analysis yielded only one single factor. The SRP scores were moderately and not differentially correlated with immediate and delayed free recall and recognition and with verbal fluency. All SRP scores discriminated nondemented probands with episodic long-term memory impairment from th…

When the amnestic mild cognitive impairment disappears: characterisation of the memory profile

2009

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Subjects affected by mild cognitive impairment (MCI) may improve during the observation period. This is the first study investigating qualitative features of memory deficits in subjects affected by reversible MCI [reversible cognitive impairment (RCI)]. METHODS: Baseline cognitive and memory performances of 18 subjects affected by amnestic MCI who had normalized cognitive performances at follow-ups were compared with those of 76 amnestic MCI subjects who still showed impaired cognitive performances at the 24-month follow-up (MCI) and with those of a group of 87 matched control subjects (normal controls). RESULTS: Compared with normal controls the memory deficit in the…

Fenomenología de los Recuerdos Autobiográficos en el Espectro Depresivo: Una Revisión

2015

2022

The paper questions the theme of identity and the configuration of historical time starting with two of the most significant authors of contemporary Russian literature, Sergej Lebedev and Marija Stepanova. Sergej Lebedev’s debut novel, The border of oblivion, is entirely based on the elaboration of post- memory, the dynamics of memory and oblivion experienced by the generations that inherit the most traumatic events of the twentieth century, entrusted to one style and a formal work that lead to an unusual icasticity and verbal splendor by probing the darkest recesses of history as the most painful twists of identity and self-recognition and by dwelling on images of shocking plasticity. At t…
