Attenuation variability ( measured in Hounsfield Units, HU) of human coronary plaques using multislice computed tomography (MSCT) was evaluated in an ex vivo model with increasing convolution kernels. MSCT was performed in seven ex vivo left coronary arteries sunk into oil followingthe instillation of saline (1/infinity) and a 1/50 solution of contrast material ( 400 mgI/ml iomeprol). Scan parameters were: slices/ collimation, 16/0.75 mm; rotation time, 375 ms. Four convolution kernels were used: b30f-smooth, b36f-medium smooth, b46f-medium and b60f-sharp. The effects of phorbol 12,13-diacetate on responses of guinea-pig isolated trachea to methylxanthines, isoprenaline and ryanodine

1. Using guinea-pig isolated trachea, we have studied how phorbol 12,13-diacetate (PDA) modulates mechanical responses of the tissue to methylxanthines, isoprenaline and ryanodine. 2. Caffeine (10 microM-5 mM), theophylline (10 microM-5 mM) and isoprenaline (1 nM-1 microM), each inhibited the spontaneous tone of the trachea. Pretreatment with PDA (0.1-10 microM) converted relaxant responses to high concentrations of the methylxanthines into contractions. PDA produced no equivalent effect against isoprenaline. The aim of the present study was to develop a new model of allergic late-phase reaction in the airways of conscious guinea pigs (GPs) and to characterise it by pharmacological intervention. GPs were pretreated with cyclophosphamide and sensitized with ovalbumin (OA) in Al(OH)3. Weekly inhalations of polymyxin B were performed before and during sensitization and continued throughout the study period. Antisecretory drugs are effective antiulcer agents, but its chronic use generates hypergastrinemia and accelerates the development of atrophic gastritis in Helicobacter pylori-positive patients. We have recently shown that gastrin exerts a proinflammatory effect in rats through CCK-2 receptor activation that contributes to the inflammation induced by H. pylori. Findings from our laboratory and others have demonstrated that the hormone insulin has chronic effects within the CNS to regulate energy homeostasis and to decrease brain reward function. In this study, we compared the acute action of insulin to decrease intake of a palatable food in two different behavioral tasks—progressive ratios sucrose self-administration and mu opioid-stimulated sucrose feeding—when administered into several insulin-receptive sites of the CNS. Variability in individual response to various doses of omeprazole. Implications for antiulcer therapy.

This study was carried out in order to perform a combined prospective assessment of the individual pharmacodynamic response and of duodenal ulcer healing in patients treated with three different doses of omeprazole. Ninety-nine patients with endoscopically proven duodenal ulcers were subdivided into three parallel groups of 33 cases, who were randomly assigned to receive orally at 0800 hr, in single blind fashion, either 10 mg, 20 mg, or 40 mg of omeprazole. Tibial Nerve Block: Supramalleolar or Retromalleolar Approach? A Randomized Trial in 110 Participants.

Of the five nerves that innervate the foot, the one in which anesthetic blocking presents the greatest difficulty is the tibial nerve. The aim of this clinical trial was to establish a protocol for two tibial nerve block anesthetic techniques to later compare the anesthetic efficiency of retromalleolar blocking and supramalleolar blocking in order to ascertain whether the supramalleolar approach achieved a higher effective blocking rate.
