Enhancing the retrieval of stream surface temperature from Landsat data

2019

International audience; Thermal images of water bodies often show a radiance gradient perpendicular to the banks. This effect is frequently due to mixed land and water thermal pixels. In the case of the Landsat images, radiance mixing can also affect pure water pixels due the cubic convolution resampling of the native thermal measurements. Some authors recommended a general-purpose margin of two thermal pixels to the banks or a minimum river width of three pixels, to avoid near bank effects in water temperature retrievals. Given the relatively course spatial resolution of satellite thermal sensors, the three pixel margin severely restricts their application to temperature mapping in many ri…

Population Trends of Cave-Dwelling Bats in the Eastern Iberian Peninsula and the Effect of Protecting Their Roosts

2017

Populations trends of cave-dwelling bats in the Eastern Iberian Peninsula and the effect of placing a perimeter fencing around their roosts (to avoid human disturbance on breeding colonies) were evaluated from 1997 to 2014. The species with the highest relative abundance was Miniopterus schreibersii (62.4%), followed by Myotis myotis/blythii (18%), and both populations showed positive trends. On the other hand, Myotis capaccinii (6.2%), M. escalerai (4.8%) and M. emarginatus (0.9%) showed significant, but minor increases, particularly in recent years. Rhinolophus mehelyi (0.2%) displayed no significant trends, while a moderate population decline was recorded for R. euryale (5.1%). Rhinoloph…

The novel NF-κB inhibitor DHMEQ synergizes with celecoxib to exert antitumor effects on human liver cancer cells by a ROS-dependent mechanism

2012

In a previous work of ours dehydroxymethyl-epoxyquinomicin (DHMEQ), an inhibitor of NF-κB, was shown to induce apoptosis through Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) production in hepatoma cells. The present study demonstrated that DHMEQ cooperates with Celecoxib (CLX) to decrease NF-κB DNA binding and to inhibit cell growth and proliferation more effectively than treatment with these single agents alone in the hepatoma cell lines HA22T/VGH and Huh-6. ROS production induced by the DHMEQ-CLX combination in turn generated the expression of genes involved in endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and silencing TRB3 mRNA significantly decreased DHMEQ-CLX-induced cell growth inhibition. Moreover, the DHMEQ-…

Determination of quinolone residues in chicken and fish by capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry

2006

A specific pressure-assisted CE-MS method is described for the analysis of five quinolone residues. MS using a single quadrupole is compared with multiple-stage MS using a quadrupole IT (QIT-MS(n)). The procedure involves a common sample preparation by SPE on disposable cartridges. The most suitable electrolyte is 60 mM (NH(4))(2)CO(3) at pH 9.2. Single quadrupole does not provide enough fragmentation to confirm identities according to the current legislation. However, QIT-MS(n) achieves selective fragmentation. Using this method, danofloxacin, enrofloxacin, flumequine, ofloxacin, and pipemidic acid are analyzed in fortified samples of chicken and fish. Recoveries at levels of 50 ng/g were …

Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibition synergizes with the NF-κB inhibitor DHMEQ to kill hepatocellular carcinoma cells

2014

Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) enzymes play a key role in the cellular machinery responsible for DNA repair. Dehydroxymethylepoxyquinomicin (DHMEQ), a new inhibitor of NF-κB, induces oxidative stress and DNA damage. The effects of DHMEQ in combination with Olaparib (PARP inhibitor) were studied on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells. The DHMEQ-Olaparib combination synergistically inhibited cell viability, cell proliferation and colony formation of Hep3B, but had additive effects on Huh7 cells. The synergistic effects of the combination correlated with increased apoptosis, caspase 3/7 activity and PARP cleavage. There was an induction of an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress response wi…

Simultaneous determination of different classes of antibiotics in fish and livestock by CE-MS

2007

A specific CE-MS method was developed for the simultaneous determination of 12 antibacterial residues (four sulfonamides: sulfamethazine, sulfathiazole, sulfadiazine, and sulfachlorpyridazine; four beta-lactams: amoxicillin, ampicillin, oxacillin, and penicillin V, and four quinolones: danofloxacin, enrofloxacin, ofloxacin, and flumequine) in fish and livestock. Separation conditions, sheath liquid composition and electrospray parameters were optimized to obtain adequate CE separation and a high sensitivity. CE employed a 75 cm long fused-silica capillary (50 cm thermostated plus 25 cm at room temperature) 75 microm id and a 60 mM ammonium acetate separation buffer at pH 8 with 10% of metha…

Effects of aquaculture waste feeds and antibiotics on marine benthic ecosystems in the Mediterranean Sea

2022

Intensive aquaculture is an important source of organic waste and antibiotics into the marine environment. Yet, their impacts on benthic marine ecosystems are poorly understood. Here, we investigated the ecological impacts of fish feed waste alone and in combination with three different antibiotics (i.e., oxytetracycline, florfenicol and flumequine) in benthic ecosystems of the Mediterranean Sea by performing a field experiment. We assessed the fate of the antibiotics in the sediment and their accumulation in wild fauna after two weeks of exposure. Moreover, we investigated the impact of the feed waste alone and in combination with the antibiotics on sediment physico-chemical properties, on…

Pharmacokinetics, bioavailability and absorption of flumequine in the rat.

1999

Abstract The study demonstrates that the oral extent of bioavailability of flumequine in the rat, relative to the intravenous injection, is complete (0.94±0.04) and not significantly different from that found by the intraduodenal route (0.95±0.04). The rate of oral bioavailability, however, is slow ( k a =1.20±0.07 h −1 ; T max =2.0 h), but enough to maintain plasma levels above the minimal inhibitory concentration of the most common pathogens for an extended period of time (about 10 h). The reason for the oral absorption slowness could be a slow gastric emptying, an adsorption to the gastric mucosae, a precipitation in the gastric medium or any other feature concerning the stomach as the i…
