Observation of an Excited $B^{\pm}_c$ Meson State with the ATLAS Detector

2014

A search for excited states of the B±c meson is performed using 4.9 fb-1 of 7 TeV and 19.2 fb-1 of 8 TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. A new state is observed through its hadronic transition to the ground state, with the latter detected in the decay B±c→J/ψπ±. The state appears in the m(Bc±π+π-)-m(Bc±)-2m(π±) mass difference distribution with a significance of 5.2 standard deviations. The mass of the observed state is 6842±4±5 MeV, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. The mass and decay of this state are consistent with expectations for the second S-wave state of the B±c meson, B±c(2S).

New physics in $B$ meson mixing: future sensitivity and limitations

The mixing of neutral mesons is sensitive to some of the highest scales probed in laboratory experiments. In light of the planned LHCb Upgrade II, a possible upgrade of Belle II, and the broad interest in flavor physics in the tera-Z phase of the proposed FCC-ee program, we study constraints on new physics contributions to Bd and Bs mixings which can be obtained in these benchmark scenarios. We explore the limitations of this program, and identify the measurement of |Vcb| as one of the key ingredients in which progress beyond current expectations is necessary to maximize future sensitivity. Search for Baryonic Decays of \psi(3770) and \psi(4040)

By analyzing data samples of 2.9 fb^{-1} collected at \sqrt s=3.773 GeV, 482 pb^{-1} collected at \sqrt s=4.009 GeV and 67 pb^{-1} collected at \sqrt s=3.542, 3.554, 3.561, 3.600 and 3.650 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring, we search for \psi(3770) and \psi(4040) decay to baryonic final states, including \Lambda\bar\Lambda\pi^+\pi^-, \Lambda \bar\Lambda\pi^0, \Lambda\bar\Lambda\eta, \Sigma^+ \bar\Sigma^-, \Sigma^0 \bar\Sigma^0, \Xi^-\bar\Xi^+ and \Xi^0\bar\Xi^0 decays. None are observed, and upper limits are set at the 90% confidence level.

Λb→J/ψKΞdecay and the higher order chiral terms of the meson baryon interaction

We study the weak decay of the ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}_{b}$ into $J/\ensuremath{\psi}K\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Xi}}$ and $J/\ensuremath{\psi}\ensuremath{\eta}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}$ states, and relate these processes to the ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}_{b}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}J/\ensuremath{\psi}\overline{K}N$ decay mode. The elementary weak transition at the quark level proceeds via the creation of a $J/\ensuremath{\psi}$ meson and an excited $sud$ system with $I=0$, which upon hadronization leads to $\overline{K}N$ or $\ensuremath{\eta}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}$ pairs. In this work baryon systems made of three hadrons which contain one nucleon and one D meson, and in addition another meson, , K or , are investigated using the Fixed Center Approximation to the Faddeev equations. In this work we use Λc(2595), X(3700) and D*s0(2317) bound states as a cluster and a third particle scattering form that clusters. In all cases we find bound states and quasibound states.

Chiral coupled channel dynamics of theΛ(1520)and theK−p→π0π0Λreaction

We study the $\ensuremath{\Lambda}(1520){D}_{03}$ in a chiral coupled channel approach. This resonance appears to be dynamically generated from the interaction of the decuplet of baryons and the octet of mesons in s wave, and its treatment is improved here with the phenomenological inclusion of the $\overline{K}N$ and $\ensuremath{\pi}\ensuremath{\Sigma}$ channels in d wave. Since the most important building block in $\ensuremath{\Lambda}(1520)$ is the $\ensuremath{\pi}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{*}(1385){P}_{13}$ channel, we study the ${K}^{\ensuremath{-}}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\pi}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{*}(1385)({\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}\ensuremath{\Lambda})$ reaction in the region …

Dynamically generated N* resonances from the interaction of two mesons and a baryon

We have studied the ππN system and coupled channels by using of the Faddeev equations and two N* and one Δ states, all of them with JP = 1/2+, have been found in the formalism as dynamically generated states. In addition, signatures for a new N* resonance with JP = 1/2+ are found around an energy of 1920 MeV in the three-body center of mass system.

The helicity matching approach to heavy hadron form factors

Abstract I discuss the helicity matching approach to current-induced transitions among heavy hadrons. This approach provides a simple and intuitively appealing access to the calculation of heavy hadron form factors which is entirely equivalent to the approach of Isgur and Wise and other authors, who use different techniques to obtain the same results. We work out explicit examples in the meson and baryon sectors and discuss possible approximations to the most general approach and some of their implications for future experiments.

Unitary theory of the deuteron photodisintegration.

The deuteron photodisintegration in the \ensuremath{\Delta}-resonance region is calculated within a unitary theory of the NN-N\ensuremath{\Delta}-\ensuremath{\pi}NN system coupled to the photon. The photoexcitation amplitude of the \ensuremath{\Delta} is deduced from the ${M}_{1+}$((3/2) pion photoproduction amplitude consistently with its background term and the \ensuremath{\pi}N interaction. The NN-N\ensuremath{\Delta} transition amplitude is obtained from the coupled equations for the NN-N\ensuremath{\Delta}-\ensuremath{\pi}NN system. Measurements of baryon pair decays of chi(cJ) mesons

Using 106 $\times 10^{6}$ $\psi^{\prime}$ decays collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII, three decays of $\chi_{cJ}$ ($J=0,1,2$) with baryon pairs ($\llb$, $\ssb$, $\SSB$) in the final state have been studied.
