Alle origini del "Barocco meridionale": archi effimeri a Napoli e Messina tra fine XVI e primo XVII secolo
2012
Between the late XVIth century and the middle of the XVIIth century Naples and Messina, two large southern cities and important seats of the viceroyalty, sponsored outstanding festivals and book festivals that may also explain the aesthetical changes of the period. The "Southern Baroque" style was born with different characteristics and features from the Roman Baroque. The images of the festivals use an opulent language in relation to contemporary repertoires of windows and doors which may have contribuited to a progressive change of taste in Spain from the second half of the century and during the last years of Philip IV's reign.
La mancata emanazione nell’Italia repubblicana di una legge “organica” sulla libertà religiosa (il confronto col caso spagnolo)
2016
A missed target of the Republican Italy is the adoption of an "organic" law on religious freedom. A lack determined in spite of the presence of intemal and extemal stimuli ( of cultural, poli ti cal and legal nature) that might have led to a different outcome: among the first, in particular, the chance to mark a discontinuity with the previous regime and to replace the "general" Legge sui Cu/ti ammessi (1929), conflicting with the Charta of 1948 on multiple fronts; regarding the latter, the suggestions (more or less compelling) occurred over time from Spain and Portugal, Countries with an history of relations between law, politics and religion in many respects parallel to the Italian one. Il seicentesco palazzo vescovile di Santa Lucia del Mela (Messina)
2013
The Bishop's Palace in Santa Lucia del Mela (Messina) was built from 1607, commissioned by Don Simone Rao Grimaldi, as prestigious seat for his successors. The riliefs, which are stored in the Archivo General de Simancas, all together with the evaluation of the building and the deed of gift to Filippo III, and the documentary findings due to local scholars, offer the change to consider the constructive issue of a building still less well-known and his "mysterious" architect.
The Ventian mammal age (Latest Miocene): present state
2013
[EN] The Ventian land mammal age includes most of the Spanish faunas assigned to the biochronologic unit MN 13. It is correlatable with the Messinian, although it may include, in its latest part, Early Pliocene faunas. We propose that the Ventian begins with the fi rst occurrence of the Muridae genus Stephanomys (7 Ma, paleomagnetic dating from El Bunker, Teruel basin), well recorded in Teruel basin, and ends with the appearance of Promimomys (ca. 5 Ma), also registered in the Teruel basin. We suggest a new reorganization of the Ventian. The first subdivision corresponds to the zone M (Dam et al., 2001). The second, zone N, is proposed here for the first time, being equivalent to the zone w…
Gli ospedali di Palermo e Messina tra XVI e XVII secolo: architettura, servizi e spazio urbano
2021
A competition for the primacy in the Island took place during the 16th century in Palermo and Messina, the two main Sicilian cities at that time, thus establishing the grounds for comparison in architectural and urban construction sites. This assumption is also confirmed in the design of the “places of care” – modern hospitals which both cities were equipped with – with a focus, in addition to the efficiency of the new institutions, to the quality of the architectural image and the urban location.
