Mineral Reactions in the Geological Underground Induced by H2 and CO2 Injections
2014
Abstract The R&D project H2STORE is part of the German program to reduce environmental pollution by energy production and in saving fossil natural resources. Thereby physico-chemical processes in the CO2-H2 system by organic and inorganic reactions receive increasing attention. In H2STORE siliciclastic reservoirs and their caprocks from 25 well sites in Germany and Austria are investigated by different analytical methods before and after H2/CO2 batch experiments under sample specific reservoir conditions (p, T, XFluid). Mineral dissolution, precipitation and their impact on reservoir quality (poro-perm, fluid pathways) and on the generation of methane by microbial metabolism triggered by CO…
Inhibition of Protein Isoprenylation Impairs Rho-Regulated Early Cellular Response to Genotoxic Stress
2000
Activation of c-Jun N-terminal kinases (JNKs) and nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-kappaB) are early cellular responses to genotoxic stress involved in the regulation of gene expression. Pretreatment of cells with the hydroxymethyl glutaryl-CoA reductase inhibitor lovastatin blocked stimulation of JNK1 activity by UV irradiation and by treatment with the alkylating compound methyl methanesulfonate but did not affect activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 2 by UV light. Lovastatin also attenuated UV-induced degradation of the NF-kappaB inhibitor IkappaBalpha. The effects of lovastatin on UV-triggered stimulation of JNK1 as well as on IkappaBalpha degradation were reverted by cotreatmen…

Distinct microbial populations are tightly linked to the profile of dissolved iron in the methanic sediments of the Helgoland mud area, North Sea
2015
Iron reduction in subseafloor sulfate-depleted and methane-rich marine sediments is currently a subject of interest in subsurface geomicrobiology. While iron reduction and microorganisms involved have been well studied in marine surface sediments, little is known about microorganisms responsible for iron reduction in deep methanic sediments. Here, we used quantitative PCR-based 16S rRNA gene copy numbers and pyrosequencing-based relative abundances of bacteria and archaea to investigate covariance between distinct microbial populations and specific geochemical profiles in the top 5 m of sediment cores from the Helgoland mud area, North Sea. We found that gene copy numbers of bacteria and ar…
Spherical Top Theory and Molecular Spectra
2011
In this article, we present an overview of the present state of the art of the theory of high-resolution spherical-top spectra in the framework of the effective Hamiltonian approach. We describe the specific features of this class of molecules to explain the basic concepts of the theoretical methods used for the analysis (line positions and intensities) and the simulation of absorption (including pure rotation) and Raman spectra of such species. The non conventional formalism that we use is essentially based on irreducible tensor methods and is especially adapted to computational treatments and global analyses of complex interacting band systems. We give examples concerning mainly methane (…
The Hexameric Resorcinarene Capsule as a Brønsted Acid Catalyst for the Synthesis of Bis(heteroaryl)methanes in a Nanoconfined Space
2019
Herein, we show that the hexameric resorcinarene capsule C is able to catalyze the formation of bis(heteroaryl)methanes by reaction between pyrroles or indoles and carbonyl compounds (α-ketoesters or aldehydes) in excellent yields and selectivity. Our results suggest that the capsule can play a double catalytic role as a H-bond catalyst, for the initial activation of the carbonyl substrate, and as a Bronsted acid catalyst, for the dehydration of the intermediate alcohol.
Synthesis of new hybrid 1,4-thiazinyl-1,2,3-dithiazolyl radicals via Smiles rearrangement
2017
The condensation reaction of 2-aminobenzenethiols and 3-aminopyrazinethiols with 2-amino-6-fluoro-N-methylpyridinium triflate afforded thioether derivatives that were found to undergo Smiles rearrangement and cyclocondensation with sulphur monochloride to yield new hybrid 1,4-thiazine-1,2,3-dithiazolylium cations. The synthesized cations were readily reduced to the corresponding stable neutral radicals with spin densities delocalized over both 1,4-thiazinyl and 1,2,3-dithiazolyl moieties. peerReviewed
Complete genome sequence of the methanogenic neotype strain Methanobacterium formicicum MF(T.).
2014
The neotype strain Methanobacterium formicicum MFT (DSM1535), a hydrogenotrophic methanogenic Archaeon, was isolated from a domestic sewage sludge digestor in Urbana (IL, USA). Here, the complete genome sequence of the methanogen is reported. The genome is 2,478,074 bp in size, featuring a GC content of 41.23%. M. formicicum MFT encodes several genes predicted to be involved in adaptation to abiotic stress such as high osmolarity. The strain MFT is of biotechnological importance since M. formicicum strains are often found in production-scale biogas plants and it is suggested as a starter culture for the anaerobic biomethanation process. Crystal Structures and Density Functional Theory Calculations of o-and p-Nitroaniline Derivatives: Combined Effect of Hydrogen Bonding and aromatic i…
2013
The interplay of strong and weak hydrogen bonds, dipole–dipole interactions, and aromatic interactions of o- and p-nitroaniline derivatives was studied by combining crystal structure analysis and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Crystal structures of four 2-nitroaniline derivatives, 2-((2-nitrophenyl)amino)ethyl methanesulfonate (1A), 2-((2-nitrophenyl)amino)ethyl 4-methylbenzenesulfonate (2A), N,N′-((1,3-phenylenebis(oxy))bis(ethane-2,1-diyl))bis(2-nitroaniline) (3A), and N-(2-chloroethyl)-2-nitroaniline (4A), and crystal structures of three 4-nitroaniline derivatives, 2-((4-nitrophenyl)amino)ethyl methanesulfonate (1B), 2-((4-nitrophenyl)amino)ethyl 4-methylbenzenesulfonate (…
