The Language of Lone Wolf Terrorists An in-depth study of the use of personal pronouns and identity terms in lone wolf terrorist manifestos
2020
Master´s thesis in English (EN501) This thesis examines the manifestos written by four lone wolf terrorists, Elliot Rodger, Dylann Roof, Christopher Harper-Mercer, and Patrick Crusius before they carried out mass killings in the United States. By conducting an analysis of these perpetrators’ use of the personal pronouns I, me, us, we, you, they, and them, this thesis looks at their presentation of themselves, their actions, and the perceived threats against which they are fighting. Additionally, an examination of the identity terms Black, Hispanic, White, Asian, Jewish, Muslim, Christian, woman, man, and immigrant will further investigate ideological perceptions of the different identity gr…

Gendered battlefields : women in conflict, household livelihoods and post-conflict resilience building in Bawku, Ghana
2016
Master thesis development management UT503 - University of Agder 2016 This thesis mainly explores the gendered role of women in conflict and the livelihood implications of ethnic conflict on selected households. The USAID sustainable livelihood framework supplemented by the concepts of agency and empowerment served as the main theoretical points of discussion for this study. Further theoretical insights were drawn from Bujones et al (2013) factor analysis of resilience, in exploring opportunities for resilience building post-conflict in the study area. Using a case study of ethnic conflict between Kusasis and Mamprusis in Bawku (Ghana), responses were analysed to shed light on the perceived…
Januar 2023 i Mandal. Det var 60 deltakere fra offentlig …

Fantasy and Desire in the construction of Sustainable Urban Development : A Discourse Theoretical Analysis of Sustainable Urban Development in Southe…
2021
This thesis details a discourse analysis of the discourse on sustainable urban development, amongst participants of a co-creative arena called Southern City Network. For over four years, participants of this arena have attempted to arrive at a joint commitment on how sustainable urban development should be understood and acted on within the arena. I propose that this inertia can be explored by investigating how sustainable urban development is enacted in discourse, while paying close attention to the affective dimension of language-use. The overall research theme of the thesis targets meaning and conflict in discursive practices, while highlighting the affective dimension of language-use. T…
Sustainable rural development and rural energy communities in a post-Brexit UK
2022
Rural areas have become increasingly important for sustainable energy transition, mainly as a resource for the production of renewable energy. However, rural areas do not merely provide the land for harnessing renewable energy, such as wind energy, for the benefit of urban growth centres. In turn, both the rural economy and livelihood of rural communities are variously affected by an increased utilisation of renewable resources, too. This chapter will focus on the interrelationship between rural areas and the development of renewable energy in the UK. In doing so, it will first shed light on how the interplay between renewable energy and rural areas has been governed in the UK, with a parti…
A phenomenon-driven exploration of regulatory sandboxes in FinTech entrepreneurial ecosystems
2021
Paper I is not published yet. Research on incubation models has indicated that business incubators and accelerators, among others, are crucial catalysts for the development of new ventures in numerous industries. To facilitate testing and validation of new financial technology (FinTech) providers, and protect financial markets against systemic risks, a new incubation model called the ‘regulatory sandbox’ has been established or announced by regulatory authorities in more than 50 countries. Sandboxes are virtual trial-and-error instruments that grant financial market participants temporary licensing relief and thus provide the opportunity to test novel solutions in a controlled, real-world e…
The role of firm-level actors and system-level actors in processes of new regional industrial path development
2020
Paper I, II, and III are not available as a part of the dissertation due to the copyright. This doctoral thesis departs from the understanding that regional industrial restructuring is important for handling challenges, such as globalisation, sustainability and digitalisation. Regional industrial restructuring can include changes in the existing industry as well as the development of completely new industries. The combination of the regional innovation system (RIS) approach and the theory on new path development, emerging from evolutionary economic geography (EEG) literature, leads to an understanding that industrial development happens within (open) regional systems. RISs consist of actors…
