Creating value through autonomous shipping: an ecosystem perspective
2022
AbstractThe expected benefits of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) include increased safety, reduced costs and increased earning potential due to operational efficiencies and reduction in vessel manning. However, autonomous shipping enabled by such ships bears a greater potential than just replacing humans with machines. Rather, MASS can play a role in transforming supply and logistics chains. The value creation potential of these ships depends on the degree to which they disrupt logistics. Our aim here is to clarify how MASS create value and for whom, as well as how different actors in the maritime logistics ecosystem are able to monetize or otherwise benefit from the innovation. Ba…
Transitioning to Platform-based Services and Business Models in a B2B Environment
2021
Given the considerable success of companies such as Apple, Amazon or Airbnb, the term platform is on everyone’s lips today. Accordingly, platforms have long since also found their way into service science. However, mastering the transition from established product-sales-based offerings to platform-based services and business models comes with a multitude of challenges. In a B2B context, incumbent companies need to carefully evaluate how they can benefit from the establishment of platforms, especially in light of the effects on their existing business models and ties to other actors. Hence, we invited scholars with different backgrounds to provide viewpoints on the opportunities and challeng…

The role of finance in the literature of entrepreneurial ecosystems
2022
Financial access is considered a crucial element of entrepreneurship. Much of the literature focuses on how individual actors demand or supply finance, but rarely within the context of systemic entrepreneurship. The current entrepreneurial finance literature is fragmented and rooted in various traditions. However, the entrepreneur’s perceived role in aggregated wealth creation is currently being strengthened, most recently by the emerging entrepreneurial ecosystem perspective. This calls for exploring the role of finance in systemic entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial ecosystems. By conducting a systematic literature review of financial determinants, sources and effects, the study synthesi…
Cushioning the Covid-19 Economic Consequences on Entrepreneurial Ecosystems: The Role of Stakeholders` Engagement, Collaboration, and Support
2022
The Covid-19 (corona virus) disruptions have necessitated a new way of thinking about how entrepreneurship and its environments (ecosystems) function in times of heightened uncertainty. Based on a sample of 237 entrepreneurial ecosystem (EE) stakeholders in Tanzania – an emerging economy, we examine the pandemic economic consequences steered by government countermeasures on the EE-perceived quality and performance. We further examined the role played by EE stakeholders` engagement, collaboration, and support during the crisis. Our structural equation model results suggest that strictness of government counter measures for containment of the current pandemic predicament has a bearing on EE- …
Unethical Leadership: Review, Synthesis and Directions for Future Research
2022
AbstractThe academic literature on unethical leadership is witnessing an upward trend, perhaps given the magnitude of unethical conduct in organisations, which is manifested in increasing corporate fraud and scandals in the contemporary business landscape. Despite a recent increase, scholarly interest in this area has, by and large, remained scant due to the proliferation of concepts that are often and mistakenly considered interchangeable. Nevertheless, scholarly investigation in this field of inquiry has picked up the pace, which warrants a critical appraisal of the extant research on unethical leadership. To this end, the current study systematically reviews the existing body of work on …
Governance, foreign aid, and Chinese foreign direct investment
2022
This article examines how Chinese foreign aid interacts with the quality of the host country's governance in shaping Chinese state-owned enterprises' (CSOEs') foreign direct investment (FDI) in Africa. By analyzing the firm-level greenfield FDI data of CSOEs between 2003 and 2014 and distinguishing between China's official development assistance and less concessional forms of Chinese foreign aid, we reveal two main findings. First, the quality of the host country's governance negatively affects CSOEs' FDI. Second, other official aid and loans from China negatively moderate the relationship between the quality of the host country's governance and FDI by CSOEs. Specifically, the tendency for …
Towards a circular economy for lithium-ion batteries stemming from electric vehicles : Recycling directly or a preceding second-life? A qualitative s…
2021
Master's thesis in Industrial economics and technology management (IND590) The objective of this qualitative study is to investigate whether the growing volume of spent electric vehicle batteries will be available for second-life or prioritised for recycling directly to meet an increasing demand for battery materials. In this thesis, repurposing and recycling have been analysed in terms of what drives the demand for recycled battery materials and how this could influence the market for second-life batteries. The study’s results are based on interviews with lithium-ion battery industry stakeholders, which are discussed in relation to state-of-the-art literature from scientific and business r…
Target Costing i Boligutvikling? : Strategisk økonomistyring i boligutvikling
2017
Teknikken anvendes for å sørge for at produktet produseres slik at ønsket fortjeneste oppnås.
2019
Masteroppgave industriell økonomi og teknologiledelse IND590 - Universitetet i Agder 2019 In the search for improved contract and project management in construction, the Best Value Approach (BVA) is a concept that has been introduced with a proven track record for better performance. The BV-philosophy stresses the importance of proper utilization of vendor expertise by putting aside management, direction and control by assumed non-expert clients. Through the process of Best Value Procurement (BVP), the assumed expert is identified and should be rewarded with supreme responsibility of the projectwith minimal involvement of the assumed non-expert client. The role of experts is therefore a suc…
