Sustainable development goals research in higher education institutions: An interdisciplinarity assessment through an entropy-based indicator

2022

Since 2015, the United Nations has urged higher education institutions (HEIs) to adopt an interdisciplinary approach towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In other words, universities are encouraged to transcend any single disciplinary perspective in exploring sustainable development issues. This study examines the importance of driving the scientific production of HEIs towards the SDGs as a concrete institutional contribution to sustainable development. While bibliometric tools for the SDGs are currently emerging, the existing models have not focused on interdisciplinarity or on their usefulness as decision-management tools to drive SDG-related research at a micro-scale (i.e. t…

Gender differences in recollections of economic socialization, financial self-efficacy, and financial literacy

2022

The OECD/INFE international surveys of adult financial literacy (OECD/INFE 2016, 2020) show gender differences in financial literacy in developed countries in Europe. In this study, we examine whether these differences can be explained by gender differences in parental economic socialization using the Dutch 2018 DHS household survey. We investigate whether respondents' recollection of economic socialization when young predict their adult economic behavior and self-assessed financial knowledge. The results from ordinal logit and logistic regressions and for nonlinear equations decompositions reveal gender differences in the recollection of economic socialization and in how socialization prac…

Greening of supply chain to drive performance through logical integration of supply chain resources

2023

Sustainability has always been a concern of humankind in one form or the other. Still, it has come into sharper focus after the promulgation of the sustainable development goals in 2015 and the disruptive forces unleashed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Supply chain management is an aspect of business operations wherein the need for sustainability has been felt more keenly. The academic and business understanding of various nuances of incorporating sustainability, particularly environmental concerns in the supply chain, is still evolving. Our study seeks to enrich the growing literature in the area by proposing to uncover a novel, logical sequence of intangible supply chain resources that can amp…

Doing good for society! How purchasing green technology stimulates consumers toward green behavior: A structural equation modeling–artificial neural …

2022

Many countries have recognized the urgent need to address environmental problems, such as air pollution, waste disposal, global warming, and natural resource depletion, through the application of green technology. ANT Forest is one such technological initiative that has gained academic attention for its potential to minimize adverse environmental impacts and promote sustainable green behavior by involving people in eco-friendly activities. We built an integrated framework to understand users' continuance intention (CI) toward ANT Forest based on the expectation-confirmation model (ECM) and the task–technology fit model (TTFM). Using structural equation modeling (SEM), we analyzed survey dat…

Corporate social responsibility: Does it really matter in the luxury context?

2022

The impact of CSR in the luxury sector has been less investigated than in the non-luxury context, and the findings in the luxury context are not unidirectional. In recent years, researchers have begun exploring the link between CSR and luxury. These efforts have attempted to overcome the gap between theory and practice while also acknowledging that luxury and CSR can be considered conflicting concepts. This mixed picture underscores the need for further investigations. The current study aims to illuminate CSR in the luxury context by examining business model development and financial performance. In particular, we conducted an in-depth longitudinal and qualitative analysis of a leading luxu…

A Mathematical Model for Equitable In-country COVID-19 Vaccine Allocation

2022

Given the scarcity of COVID-19 vaccines, equitable (fair) allocation of limited vaccines across the main administrative units of a country (e.g. municipalities) has been an important concern for public health authorities worldwide. In this study, we address the equitable allocation of the COVID-19 vaccines inside countries by developing a novel, evidence-based mathematical model that accounts for multiple priority groups (e.g. elderly, healthcare workers), multiple vaccine types, and regional characteristics (e.g. storage capacities, infection risk levels). Our research contributes to the literature by developing and validating a model that proposes equitable vaccine allocation alternatives…

Crowdfunding Models, Strategies, and Choices Between Them

2020

AbstractThe growing popularity of crowdfunding is manifested through the proliferation of thousands of platforms globally. The current chapter presents an elaborate, up-to-date, and detailed typology of crowdfunding models currently in use, as well as their main characteristics. Furthermore, it suggests some of the first frameworks developed for guiding prospective fundraisers in choosing between models. Each of the frameworks is designed for a different type of fundraiser, including model choice heuristics for organizations and consumers. The chapter concludes with some suggestions for further research and implications for practice.

The Road to Higher Prices: Will Improved Road Standards Lead to Higher Housing Prices?

2020

AbstractWe study the impact of improved road standards on housing prices in a region of Southern Norway, where towns are located along the coast, like pearls on a string, with sparsely populated areas between the towns. In this region towns have since long been linked together by a road, but in 2009 a new highway, roughly parallel to the old road, was opened. The new highway runs Eastwards from the main town in the region and reduced one-way commutes to the main town by 10–15 min. We examine how this change in transportation infrastructure has affected housing prices, using difference-in-difference regressions to identify the impact of the new highway. Three smaller towns located East of th…

The “dark side” of projectification: The impact of project work on the employees’ well-being : A quantitative study of the impact of project work exp…

2018

Master's thesis Business Administration BE501 - University of Agder 2018 Although project-based work is said to create dynamic environments for innovation and learning, it can also make the employees vulnerable, exhausted and reduce their personal worthiness. Some have even stated that it can be destructive to the employees’ well-being. Employees’ well-being impacts not only the individual itself, but also the organizations they work in and the society as a whole. Existing studies have explored how work in general impact employees’ well-being, but few have assessed the impact of project-based work on employees’ well-being. As the use of project-based work is constantly increasing it is high…
