Telomerase and Telomere Length in Pulmonary Fibrosis
2013
In addition to its expression in stem cells and many cancers, telomerase activity is transiently induced in murine bleomycin (BLM)-induced pulmonary fibrosis with increased levels of telomerase transcriptase (TERT) expression, which is essential for fibrosis. To extend these observations to human chronic fibrotic lung disease, we investigated the expression of telomerase activity in lung fibroblasts from patients with interstitial lung diseases (ILDs), including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The results showed that telomerase activity was induced in more than 66% of IPF lung fibroblast samples, in comparison with less than 29% from control samples, some of which were obtained from lu…

Shaping Monetary Constitutions for Developing Countries: Some Archival Evidence on the Bloomfield Missions to South Korea (1949-1950)
2009
In this paper we analyse the scientific contributions of the New York Fed economist Arthur I. Bloomfield. A Canadian born economist, in 1941 Bloomfield took his PhD in economics at the University of Chicago, under the supervision of Jacob Viner and then joined the staff of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York as a Research Economist and stayed there until 1958. In this position, Bloomfield combined scholarly research on recent economic history and international financial and banking problems with active service as a member of various committees and commissions, both in the United States and abroad. While on leave from the Fed, he accepted appointments as a consultant and advisor to various …
Determining the performance of MFI : the case of UEMOA and BRICS
2019
Microfinance is a way for helping poor people and it is used to give financial services to a part of the population excluded from formal bank system, short of guarantee that may lead to risk of default. To this end, to continue their activities in a sustainable way the MFI must ensure economic or financial performance while respecting their social objectives to grant loans to the greatest number of poor. In this way, the questions about economical, financial and social performance of microcredit organization are essential. The economic performance is the profitability of economic asset (equity and financial debt); the financial performance focuses on the return on equity, while social perfo…

Contribution and limitation of infrared spectroscopy technique to understand physisorption processes on MFI zeolites
2011
This manuscript is devoted to the study of adsorption processes by FTIR spectroscopy. The experimental results concern the adsorption of ethylene, trichloroethylene, tetrachloroethylene, sulfur hexafluoride or p-xylene on MFI zeolites, more especially on silicalite-1. The first step of the work was to develop a new experimental device and procedure in order to obtain reliable absorption infrared data and to improve results previously obtained by a prototype. The first main result is to characterize, maybe for the first time, the evolution of the spectrum of the adsorbent all during the adsorption process. Experiments reveal that the zeolite infrared spectrum undergoes strong modifications w…
Butene Isomerization and Double-Bond Migration on the H-ZSM-5 Outer Surface: A Density Functional Theory Study
2011
Isomerization of trans-but-2-ene to cis-but-2-ene and double bond migration of trans-but-2-ene to but-1-ene have been investigated by means of density functional theory calculations on a suitable model of H-ZSM-5 surface. The study has been afforded on outer surface sites by considering the hydroxyl group of either a SiO2(OH)2 or a AlO2H(OH)2 moiety. On these outer surface sites, one alkoxide species occurs as a stable intermediate both along the isomerization and double bond migration pathways. The latter process could also occur via a single-step mechanism, which involves a six-center transition state. The energy barriers of the outer surface processes above do not take any advantage by t…
