C3N4/reduced graphene oxide photocatalysts loaded with Ag or Ag/Pt for H2 evolution from aqueous solution of triethanolamine
2023
Composites of C3N4/reduced graphene oxide have been used as photocatalysts for triethanolamine photo- reforming with H2 generation in aqueous solution. The rate of H2 production over the Ag loaded best per- forming photocatalyst reached 525 μmol⋅h

Observation of the cosmic ray moon shadowing effect with the ARGO-YBJ experiment
2011
Cosmic rays are hampered by the Moon and a deficit in its direction is expected (the so-called Moon shadow). The Moon shadow is an important tool to determine the performance of an air shower array. Indeed, the westward displacement of the shadow center, due to the bending effect of the geomagnetic field on the propagation of cosmic rays, allows the setting of the absolute rigidity scale of the primary particles inducing the showers recorded by the detector. In addition, the shape of the shadow permits to determine the detector point spread function, while the position of the deficit at high energies allows the evaluation of its absolute pointing accuracy. In this paper we present the obser…
CHE SENSO HA? POLISEMIA E ATTIVITA' DI LINGUAGGIO
2012
Semiconductor mixed oxides as innovative materials for the photocatalytic removal of organic pollutants
2020
Abstract This work aims to provide a critical survey of the extensive literature concerning the potential applications of nanostructured mixed oxides for environmental remediation. In particular, our attention was focused on the feasibility to employ these materials as photocatalysts for the elimination of toxic organic pollutants contained in water and wastewater. The advantages and perspectives of the various nanocomposites are briefly discussed.
On the Reduction of Power Consumption in Vortexing Unbaffled Bioslurry Reactors
2020
Bioremediation of polluted soils via bioslurry reactors is an interesting option among those available nowadays, especially when recalcitrant pollutants are present. Vortexing unbaffled stirred tanks may be a valuable choice to this purpose as they were recently found to be more efficient than baffled vessels for solid suspension processes where mixing time is not a controlling factor. When operated at sufficiently high agitation speeds, the central vortex bottom reaches the impeller and air bubbles start to be distributed throughout the system, thus avoiding any sparger and related clogging issues. In the present work, a vortexing unbaffled stirred tank with solid loadings ranging from 2.5…
Recombinant mussel protein Pvfp5β enhances cell adhesion of poly(vinyl alcohol)/k-carrageenan hydrogel scaffolds
2022
Polymeric hydrogels are increasingly being considered as a scaffold for tissue engineering because they show similarity to the extracellular matrix (ECM) of many tissues. To control various cellular processes, hydrogels are often functionalized or loaded with various bioactive molecules such as: specific ligands for adhesion receptors, growth factors, hormones, enzymes, and other natural or synthetic regulators of cellular behavior [1]. Cell adhesion is essential for cell communication and regulation of the cell cycle and is therefore of vital importance in tissue engineering. Biomimetic approaches have been investigated to facilitate cell-scaffold adhesion interactions. In particular, the …
Polycrystalline TiO2 impregnated with cardanol-based porphyrins for the photocatalytic degradation of 4-nitrophenol
2004
Hydrogenated cardanol (3-n-pentadecylphenol), a renewable organic resource obtained by vacuum distillation of roasted “cashew nut shell liquid” (CNSL), a by-product of the cashew industry, has been used to synthesize novel lipophilic porphyrins. Polycrystalline TiO2 impregnated with these novel “cardanol-based” porphyrins as sensitizers has been investigated in the photodegradation of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) in aqueous suspension. The results indicated that the presence of the sensitizer enhances the photoactivity of polycrystalline bare TiO2 in the process. The activating effect was higher in the case of the Cu-complex.

Pulsatile protein release and protection using radiation-crosslinked polypeptide hydrogel delivery devices
2011
Abstract In the recent years recombinant technology has identified numerous protein based therapeutics. Their effective delivery, though, can be challenging due to the poor stability of most proteins along their pathway to the target site in the body. Hydrogels have been identified as good candidates for protein encapsulation and delivery thanks to both material and manufacturing process advantages. In this work we propose high energy irradiation as a synthetic methodology of choice to engineer hydrogel-based delivery devices for encapsulation and pulsatile release of proteins, triggered by pH, and for prevention of their denaturation when encapsulated. In particular, maleic anhydride funct…
