Water vapour permeability, thermal and wetting properties of whey protein isolate based edible films
2010
Abstract This study deals with the effect of whey protein isolate (WPI) and glycerol (GLY) used as a plasticizer on some physical properties of cast whey protein isolate (WPI) films. Films were prepared from heated (80 °C for 30 min) aqueous solutions of WPI at 7, 8, 9 and 10% (w/w), GLY (40%, w/w, of WPI) and WPI at 8% (w/w), GLY (30, 40, and 60%, w/w, of WPI). For all types of films, water vapour permeability for four relative humidity differentials (30–100%, 30–84%, 30–75%, and 30–53%), surface and thermal properties were measured. Varying the proportion of WPI and GLY in edible films had some effect on water vapour permeability, wetting and thermal properties of WPI films. A cumulative …
Helios and Aeolus
2012
In summer it’s always hot in the Big Apple, but the summer of 2003 had been especially sweltering. Temperatures had been around 35oC during all the month, with humidity approaching one hundred percent. The higher the temperature, the lower the New Yorkers’ thermostats, up to the point where you needed a sweater at the office, while outside delivery men, mail carriers and peddlers had to suffer the heat, together with the tourists brave enough to venture through the smoldering avenues.
Development and characterization of essential oil component-based polymer films: a potential approach to reduce bacterial biofilm
2013
The development of new polymeric materials aimed to control the bacterial biofilm appears to be an important practical approach. The goal of the present study was to prepare and characterize poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) copolymer (EVA) films containing citronellol, eugenol, and linalool and evaluate their efficiency on growth and biofilm formation of Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa in monospecies and dual species. The results showed that the addition of oil components influenced the elastic modulus (15 % decrease), the tensile stress (30 % decrease), the elongation at break (10 % increase), and the co…
Continuous Theta-Burst Stimulation Intensity Dependently Facilitates Motor-Evoked Potentials Following Focal Electrical Stimulation of the Rat Motor …
2020
Although theta-burst stimulation (TBS) is known to differentially modify motor cortical excitability according to stimulus conditions in humans, whether similar effects can be seen in animals, in particular rats, remains to be defined. Given the importance of experimental rat models for humans, this study explored this stimulation paradigm in rats. Specifically, this study aimed to explore corticospinal excitability after TBS in anesthetized animals to confirm its comparability with human results. Both inhibition-facilitation configurations using paired electrical stimulation protocols and the effects of the TBS paradigm on motor-evoked potentials (MEPs) in rat descending motor pathways wer…
Hydration and dehydration kinetics of xylazine hydrochloride
2009
From the experiments where mixture of xylazine hydrochloride hydrate H and anhydrous X were held at constant conditions, the stable form of xylazine hydrochloride can be found out. To determine equilibrium relative humidity, the unstable form of xylazine hydrochloride was inserted in thermostated humidity chamber and its weight was recorded by weighing the sample outside the chamber. The kinetic model and the rate constant for each condition were determined. The rate constants give information regarding the speed of the process at every experimentally used relative humidity. Thus using the data in coordinates k – p for each temperature it is possible to determine the water vapor pressure of…
Known by literary sources from the Late Roman period, the Castrum of Dijon has marked today's urbanism. Old maps, the study of Louis-Bénigne Baudot's notebooks and the reassessment of the preserved ruins have improved our k…
Retrievals of soil moisture and optical depth from CAROLS
2011
International audience; We propose in this paper to evaluate a method to retrieve soil moisture (SM) and vegetation optical thickness, in areas of unknown roughness and unknown vegetation water content in view of operational applications, by using airborne Tb measurements acquired in South-West of France. Results are compared to in situ measurements, manual and automatic ones included in SMOSmania network, in the South-West of France.
A case study on the formation and evolution of ice supersaturation in the vicinity of a warm conveyor belt\'s outflow region
2005
A case study is presented on the formation and evolution of an ice-supersaturated region (ISSR) that was detected by a radiosonde in NE Germany at 06:00 UTC 29 November 2000. The ISSR was situated in the vicinity of the outflow region of a warm conveyor belt associated with an intense event of cyclogenesis in the eastern North Atlantic. Using ECMWF analyses and trajectory calculations it is determined when the air parcels became supersaturated and later subsaturated again. In the case considered, the state of air parcel supersaturation can last for longer than 24h. The ISSR was unusually thick: while the mean vertical extension of ISSRs in NE Germany is about 500m, the one investigated here…
Characterization of variations responsible for neurodevelopmental disorders in the PTBP1 and PTBP2 genes
2022
Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs) polypyrimidine tract-binding protein 1 and 2 (PTBP1 and PTBP2) are splicing regulators, shuttling between nucleus and cytoplasm thanks to the action of partially overlapping nuclear localization and export signals (NLS and NES respectively). These two paralog proteins share similar RNA binding properties although they exhibit different expression levels and kinetics, post-translational modifications and cofactor interactions across tissues and cell types, thus regulating RNA metabolism in a cell- specific manner. Despite their fundamental role as alternative splicing factors implicated in cell growth, neuronal cell differentiation, and immun…
