Early Treatment With Zofenopril and Ramipril in Combination With Acetyl Salicylic Acid in Patients With Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction After A…
2017
Abstract: The SMILE-4 study showed that in patients with left ventricular dysfunction (LVD) after acute myocardial infarction, early treatment with zofenopril plus acetyl salicylic acid is associated with an improved 1-year survival, free from death or hospitalization for cardiovascular (CV) causes, as compared to ramipril plus acetyl salicylic acid. We now report CV outcomes during a 5-year follow-up of the patients of the SMILE-4 study. Three hundred eighty-six of the 518 patients completing the study (51.2%) could be tracked after the study end and 265 could be included in the analysis. During the 5.5 (±2.1) years of follow-up, the primary endpoint occurred in 27.8% of patients originall…
Comparison between zofenopril and ramipril in combination with acetylsalicylic acid in patients with left ventricular systolic dysfunction after acut…
2012
Background: Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) are largely employed for treating patients with left ventricular dysfunction (LVD), but their efficacy may be negatively affected by concomitant administration of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), with some difference among the different compounds. Hypothesis: The interaction between ASA and the two ACEIs zofenopril and ramipril may result in a different impact on survival of cardiac patients, due to differences in the pharmacological properties of the two ACEIs. Methods: This phase IIIb, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, multicenter, European study compared the safety and efficacy of zofenopril (60 mg/day) and ramipril (10 mg/d…
Investigation of long-range female sex pheromone of the European tarnished plant bug, Lygus rugulipennis: chemical, electrophysiological, and field s…
2004
The European tarnished plant bug, Lygus rugulipennis, is an important pest of agricultural and horticultural crops throughout Europe. Adult male L. rugulipennis were previously shown to be attracted to traps baited with live virgin females, which suggests the females produce a sex pheromone. Volatiles produced by virgin female L. rugulipennis were shown to contain three components, hexyl butyrate, (E)-2-hexenyl butyrate, and (E)-4-oxo-2-hexenal which elicited electroantennographic (EAG) responses from males in analyses by linked gas chromatography–electroantennography (GC-EAG). They were produced in 1.5:1:0.08 ratio, respectively, by single females. Collections from 1, 2, or 4 virgin female…
Diazepam has no beneficial effects on stress-induced behavioural and endocrine changes in male tree shrews.
2000
Abstract VAN KAMPEN, M., U. SCHMITT, C. HIEMKE AND E. FUCHS. Diazepam has no beneficial effects on stress-induced behavioural and endocrine changes in male tree shrews. PHARMACOL BIOCHEM BEHAV 65 (3) 539–546, 2000.—The present study evaluated the effect of subchronic oral treatment of psychosocially stressed male tree shrews with diazepam on locomotor activity, marking behavior, avoidance behavior, and urinary cortisol and noradrenaline. To mimic a realistic situation of anxiolytic intervention, the treatment started 14 days after the beginning of psychosocial stress; at that time, the stress-induced behavioral and endocrine alterations had been established. The drug (5 mg/kg/day) was admin…
Automated determination of clomipramine and its major metabolites in human and rat serum by high-performance liquid chromatography with on-line colum…
1998
A fully automated method including column-switching and isocratic high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was developed for simultaneous determination of the tricyclic antidepressant clomipramine and its metabolites demethylclomipramine, 2-, 8-, and 10-hydroxyclomipramine, 2-, and 8-hydroxydemethylclomipramine and didemethylclomipramine in serum. After serum injection into the HPLC system and on-line sample clean-up on a clean-up column (Hypersil CN; 10 x 4.6 mm) by an eluent consisting of 35% acetonitrile and 65% deionized water, the chromatographic separation was performed on an analytical column (LiChrospher CN; 250 x 4.6 mm I.D.) by an eluent consisting of 38% acetonitrile and 62%…
Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood: neurological comorbidities and intrafamilial variability.
2022
Abstract Background Alternating of Childhood (AHC) is an uncommon and complex disorder characterized by age of onset before 18 months with recurrent hemiplegia of one or either sides of the body or quadriplegia. The disorder is mainly caused by mutations in ATP1A3 gene, and to a lesser extent in ATP1A2 gene. In AHC neurological co-morbidities are various and frequently reported including developmental delay, epilepsy, tonic or dystonic spells, nystagmus, autonomic manifestations with intrafamilial variability. Case presentation Clinical and genetic findings of a couple of twins (Family 1: Case 1 and Case 2) and a couple of siblings (Family 2: Case 3 and Case 4) coming from two different Ital…
The Association of Ambient Temperature and Violent Crime
2017
It is controversial if global warming will result into increased crime and conflict rate, and no causal neurobiological mechanisms have been proposed for the putative association between ambient temperature and aggressive behavior. This study shows that during 1996–2013, ambient temperature explained 10% of variance in the violent crime rate in Finland, corresponding to a 1.7% increase/degree centigrade. Ambient temperature also correlated with a one month delay in circannual changes in peripheral serotonin transporter density among both offenders and healthy control subjects, which itself correlated strongly with the monthly violent crime rate. This suggests that rise in temperature modula…
On the spectral intermediate at 440 nm formed during mixed function substrate oxidation.
1974
Abstract The spectral shoulder formed at 440 nm in microsomes oxidising hexobarbital and other drugs has been investigated and some of its properties characterised. Hexobarbital, pentobarbital, ethylmorphine and barbital produce this shoulder, while acetanilide, aniline, desmethylimipramine, imipramine, metyrapone and SKF 525-A do not. The formation of the 440 nm shoulder depends on the presence of NADPH and oxygen and is reduced in size when NADH is also present. At saturating substrate concentrations the size of the 440 nm shoulder is correlated to the cytochrome P-450 content. The hexobarbital induced shoulder can be inhibited by drug metabolism inhibitors such as metyrapone, imipramine …
Acute effects of antidepressant drugs on long-term potentiation (LTP) in rat hippocampal slices.
1991
The actions of three clinically effective antidepressant drugs with different pharmacological profiles were investigated in the CA1 area of rat hippocampal slices. Imipramine and (+) or (-)-oxaprotiline had negligible effects on population spikes evoked by stratum radiatum stimulation, but reduced postsynaptic excitability in low Ca high Mg medium after an exposure of more than 15 min. Imipramine and (+)-oxaprotiline at 10 mumol/l enhanced long-term potentiation (LTP) when a lower stimulation strength was applied while (+)-oxaprotiline reduced LTP when a higher stimulus amplitude was used to evoke population spikes. (-)-oxaprotiline (levoprotiline) had a similar effect which was, however, n…
Spontaneous release of endogenous 5-hydroxytryptamine and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid from the isolated vascularly perfused ileum of the guinea-pig
1987
The spontaneous release of 5-hydroxytryptamine and its metabolite 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid from the enterochromaffin cells of the small intestine into the portal circulation was investigated in vitro using the vascularly perfused ileum of the guinea-pig. The release of 5-hydroxytryptamine decreased by 70% in a calcium-free medium and by 35% in the presence of tetrodotoxin. Inhibition of monoamine oxidase activity by pargyline (100 microM) had no effect on the spontaneous release of 5-hydroxytryptamine although it caused a 75% reduction in the outflow of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid. Imipramine (1 microM), an inhibitor of neuronal uptake of 5-hydroxytryptamine, reduced the 5-hydroxyindoleace…
