Current agri-environmental policies dismiss varied perceptions and discourses on management of traditional rural biotopes

Traditional rural biotopes (TRBs) are threatened habitats that host significant biodiversity and several ecosystem services, and depend on active management such as low-intensity grazing. The current study explores private landowners’ decision-making on TRB management and abandonment within a social-ecological system framework. We provide insight into supporting resilience of TRB systems in the face of agricultural modernization. Using a mixed methods approach with content analysis and Q analysis, we demonstrate that TRB management fosters cultural, biological, aesthetic, and utilitarian values. Jaettu opettajuus : samanaikaisopettajuus opettajien kokemana

Tässä tutkimuksessa selvitettiin monimenetelmäisellä tutkimusotteella, miten kyselyyn vastanneet opettajat määrittelevät ja kokevat samanaikaisopetuksen työssään sekä mitä heidän mielestään ovat samanaikaisopettajuuden hyödyt ja hyötyjät. Lisäksi selvitettiin opettajien työkokemuksen merkitsevyyttä samanaikaisopettajuuden toimintamallien kuvailuun ja heidän kokemustensa laatuun. Tutkimus toteutettiin lukuvuoden 2015-2016 aikana, kun mm. samanaikaisopettajuuteen ja laaja-alaisen erityisopettajan asiantuntijuuteen kannustavan oppimisen ja koulunkäynnin kolmiportaisen tuen ohjeistus oli ollut käytössä kouluissa viiden vuoden ajan. The pblm package: semiparametric regression for bivariate categorical responses in R

We present an R package to fit semiparametric regression models for two categorical responses. It works for both nominal and ordered responses and several types of logits can be specified. Proportional, non-proportional and partial proportional odds models can be fitted, with marginal and association parameters estimated in a parametric or semiparametric way, via penalized maximum likelihood estimation. An application to show the potential of the package is carried out on a data set of Italian university students.
Lapsen vahvuudet kolmiportaisen tuen asiakirjoissa

Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää, millaisia vahvuuksia kasvattajat kirjaavat esiopetuksen kolmiportaisen tuen asiakirjoihin. Lisäksi tarkasteltiin, miten kasvattajat kirjaavat vahvuuksia asiakirjoihin. Tutkimusaineisto koostui 30 esiopetusikäisen lapsen kolmiportaisen tuen asiakirjoista. Aineisto analysoitiin sekä sisällönanalyysin että diskurssianalyysin avulla. Lapsen vahvuuksien kuvaukset jaettiin sisällöllisesti kuuteen eri ryhmään: kiinnostuksen kohteet, luonteenvahvuudet, normien mukainen toiminta, yksilöllinen tapa toimia, oppimistaidot ja tiedot sekä tuen tarpeet. The state of preservation of the bug Sehirus carpathiensis J.A. Lis, Vršanský & Schlögl, sp. n. (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Cydnidae) from the Lakšárska Nová Ves Formation at Cerová (Slovakia) supports extremely rapid sinking and burial in upper bathyal Early Miocene sediments. The specimen originated from land at most a few kilometers away, but transport via a river can be excluded as the head and wings are still attached. Its most likely source based on fossil flora and the habitat of several living representatives of the genus is a riparian habitat in an adjacent area of land. The authors present their expertise in the treatment of acquired spasticity of the upper extremity in adults, illustrating the basics of modern functional surgery, which benefits from the achievements in bioengineering and information technology and new surgical techniques. We discuss the semi-nonparametric approach of Gallant and Nychka (1987, Econometrica 55: 363–390), the semiparametric maximum likelihood approach of Klein and Spady (1993, Econometrica 61: 387–421), and a set of new Stata commands for semiparametric estimation of three binary-choice models. The first is a univariate model, while the second and the third are bivariate models without and with sample selection, respectively.
