Musculoskeletal pain and use of analgesics in relation to mobility limitation among community-dwelling persons aged 75 years and older

2012

Pain and factors related to it constitute serious health problems in the older population. This populationbased cross-sectional study aimed to investigate whether musculoskeletal pain is associated with mobility limitation and whether the relationship between pain and mobility limitation varies according to the use of analgesics among community-dwelling older people. A total of 622 community-dwelling participants aged 75 years and older (mean age 80.4, 74% women) were interviewed about presence and severity of musculoskeletal pain. Self-reported analgesic drug utilization was verified against medical records. Mobility limitation was assessed by the Timed Up & Go test (TUG) time of >13.5 s o…

The author focus on the relationship between main features of new urban population and the emergency of mass culture dynamics. Theatre played a key role in that emergent mass culture, giving sense and including in coherent plots some preoccupations and fears of that urban population, such as social mobility, ambiguity of gender roles or subjective disorientation. Educational Migration Trends Review in Poland (with Particular Emphasis on the Immigration of Ukrainian Youth)

2023

This article aims to review and synthesise research on educational migration in Poland, particularly youth immigration from Ukraine. The paper collects statistical data from 2004, which allowed for the analysis of the existing trends in educational migration in Poland. The research on the largest group of foreign students – citizens of Ukraine – was reviewed, which resulted in identifying research gaps regarding student mobility in Poland, both in terms of demand and supply of educational migrations. The practical implication appears to show that the governments of the host countries, the business sector, and the academic units – due to the increase in the number of foreign students – can e…

Muistisairaan ihmisen kokemukset teknologiasta osana arkea - turvaa vai tunkeilevuutta

2018

RISKS OF DISREGARDING THE INCOMPATIBLE TRINITY RULE: THE SWISS FRANC CRISIS CASE

2015

When designing economic policies, governments must take account not only of economic laws but also of certain rules of thumb. The incompatible trinity is such rule, which states that a country cannot simultaneously have a fixed exchange rate regime, mobility of foreign capital and an independent monetary policy. Traditionally, the rule has been generally observed, whether knowingly or not. The recent crisis triggered by the removal of cap on the Swiss franc is an illustrative example of what might happen if the said rule is disregarded.

Conventional Theory’s Relevance: Evidence from Japan

2019

Abstract The formidable surge in the volume of international trade after 1960 stimulated surveys designed to ascertain to what degree the commercial flows among nations reflected the structure of their economies, in other words, how tight was the correlation between international exchanges and the specific attributes of participating nations. In fact, scholars were keen to test the relevance of the conventional Heckscher-Ohlin theory, that is, to what extent did nations’ exports reflect their endowment with factors of production, more specifically, whether their exports used their abundant factors intensively. I try to show that, although most of the tests reached their purpose in that they…
