Anti-dynamical Casimir effect with an ensemble of qubits

Abstract We consider the interaction between a single cavity mode and N ≫ 1 identical qubits, assuming that any system parameter can be rapidly modulated in situ by external bias. It is shown that, for the qubits initially in the ground states, three photons can be coherently annihilated in the dispersive regime for harmonic modulation with frequency 3 ω 0 − Ω 0 , where ω 0 ( Ω 0 ) is the bare cavity (qubit) frequency. This phenomenon can be called “Anti-dynamical Casimir effect”, since a pair of excitations is destroyed without dissipation due to the external modulation. For the initial vacuum cavity state, three qubit excitations can also be annihilated for the modulation frequency 3 Ω 0 …

Integrated Generation of High-dimensional Entangled Photon States and Their Coherent Control

Exploiting a frequency-domain approach, we demonstrate the generation of high-dimensional entangled quantum states with a Hilbert-space dimensionality larger than 100 from an on-chip nonlinear microcavity, and introduce a coherent control platform using standard telecommunications components.

Probing fast oscillating scalar dark matter with atoms and molecules

Light scalar Dark Matter with scalar couplings to matter is expected within several scenarios to induce variations in the fundamental constants of nature. Such variations can be searched for, among other ways, via atomic spectroscopy. Sensitive atomic observables arise primarily due to possible changes in the fine-structure constant or the electron mass. Most of the searches to date have focused on slow variations of the constants (i.e. modulation frequencies $<$ 1 Hz). In a recent experiment \mbox{[Phys. Rev. Robust single-parameter quantized charge pumping

2008

This paper investigates a scheme for quantized charge pumping based on single-parameter modulation. The device was realized in an AlGaAs-GaAs gated nanowire. We find a remarkable robustness of the quantized regime against variations in the driving signal, which increases with applied rf power. This feature together with its simple configuration makes this device a potential module for a scalable source of quantized current.

Solitons and modulational instability

We introduce the localized nonlinear waves called solitons which can occur in nature with different profiles such as kink, pulse, and envelope solitons. The envelope-soliton is important because without modulation the wave carry no information. It is a solution of the so-called nonlinear Schrodinger equation which describes the evolution of dispersive and weakly nonlinear waves. The generation of envelope soliton trains can result from the modulational instability phenomenon that leads to self induced modulations, with respect to small perturbations, such as noise, of input plane wave.

Dark-soliton-like pulse-train generation from induced modulational polarization instability in a birefringent fiber

Theory and experiments show that the nonlinear development of the modulational polarization instability of an intense light beam in a normally dispersive, low-birefringence optical fiber leads to ultrashort dark-soliton-like trains with repetition rates in the terahertz range in the polarization orthogonal to the pump.

Transmission and phase measurement for polarization eigenvectors in twisted-nematic liquid crystal spatial light modulators

Recently we published theoretical expressions for the eigenvalues and eigenvectors for a twisted-nematic liquid crystal spatial light modulator (LCSLM) as a function of the twist angle and birefringence using the Jones matrix formalism. These polarization eigenvectors are of interest for newer video graphics adapter (VGA) resolution (640 3480 pixels) LCSLMs that are thinner and consequently have a lower birefringence. Although these devices can produce excellent amplitude modulation, they cannot achieve phase-only modulation using linearly polarized light. Control of the speed of a DC motor by employeeing pulse width modulation (PWM) technique

This paper is mainly focused on the technique of pulse width modulation for controlling the speed of a 12 volt DC motor more efficiently. A potentiometer was used to generate a wide variety of pulses. The output of the controlling circuit (Pulse Width) was connected to the second circuit as input for direction control. Here a single push switch was used to change the state (stopforward-stop-reverse) of the DC motor. These two circuits were combined into one for ease of use. Third circuit was designed to measure the speed of the motor by employing an opto-electronic sensor, an amplifier and a two blade fan to interrupt the signal transmission of the sensor.
