A prospective study of food preferences in childhood

2004

Abstract This study has evaluated the impact of food choices at 2–3 years old on food preferences later in life, by following up the same subjects. Early preferences were estimated through recordings of food choices conducted in a nursery canteen in children aged 2–3, from 1982 to 1999. The children were free to choose the composition of their lunch from among a varied offering of eight dishes. The same subjects ( n =341) were contacted in 2001–2002 and so their ages varied from 17–22 ( n =91), 13–16 ( n =68), 8–12 ( n =99) to 4–7 ( n =83). Their present preference for the 80 foods most frequently presented at the nursery canteen was assessed through a questionnaire. Five food categories we…

On the consistency of liking scores: a validation study run in France and Germany

2005

International audience; A validation study was performed to confirm the findings of a previous experiment, by enlarging it at younger age groups. The study was conducted in France and Germany. Monadic preferences for seven orange juices were recorded. Three of the samples were replicates of the same juice (RJ). The four others were RJ slightly spiked with chemicals. Each subject then performed a paired preference test composed of RJ and the modified juice whose score was the furthest from the RJ score. Finally, subjects had to choose one among eight reasons why they preferred that sample. The effects of age, gender and country on the consistency of liking scores were examined. Most of the f…

Kinship, acquired and inherited status, and population structure at the Early Bronze Age Mokrin necropolis in northern Serbia

2020

AbstractTwenty-four ancient genomes with an average sequencing coverage of 0.85±0.25 X were produced from the Mokrin necropolis, an Early Bronze Age (2,100-1,800 BC) Maros culture site in Serbia, to provide unambiguous identification of biological sex, population structure, and genetic kinship between individuals. Of the 24 investigated individuals, 15 were involved in kinship relationships of varying degrees, including 3 parent-offspring relationships. All observed parent-offspring pairs were mother and son. In addition to the absence of biological daughters, we observed a number of young women and girls with no biological relatives in our sample. These observations, together with the high…

The Relationship between Fatigue in Mothers and the Age of Their Less-Than-24-Month-Old Newborns

2021

The birth of a child marks the beginning of a new developmental period for the parents. These changes have positive but also negative aspects, such as the increase in fatigue experienced by mothers during this period of time, which can be very limiting and lead them to postpone other life or work goals. However, despite the widespread nature of this problem, there is a lack of information about the duration of this fatigue, with estimates ranging from three months to six years

Neighbourhood socio-economic characteristics and the risk of preterm birth for migrant and non-migrant women: a study in a French district

2011

Neighbourhood-level deprivation is associated with preterm birth; preterm birth rates are also higher for some, but not all migrant groups. We studied the impact of neighbourhood characteristics (a deprivation score and the proportion of foreign-born residents) on singleton preterm birth in the French district of Seine-Saint-Denis for women born in France, North Africa, sub-Saharan Africa and other countries. Multilevel logistic regression models were adjusted for maternal demographic and health care characteristics. For women born in France, the preterm birth rate rose with neighbourhood deprivation quintile (3.8% in the first to 5.7% in the fifth, adjusted odds ratio: 1.40 [95% confidence…

2019

Abstract This paper examines the relationship between health endowment and later-life outcomes in the labour market. The analysis is based on reduced-form models in which labour market outcomes are regressed on genetic variants related to the increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. We use linked Finnish data that have many strengths. Genetic risk scores constitute exogenous measures for health endowment, and accurate administrative tax records on earnings, employment and social income transfers provide a comprehensive account of an individual’s long-term performance in the labour market. The results show that although the direction of an effect is generally consistent with theoretical re…

Sexting Prevalence and Socio-Demographic Correlates in Spanish Secondary School Students

2020

Introduction This research analyzes the prevalence of sexting and socio-demographic correlates in a sample of 647 adolescents administered a questionnaire at secondary schools in Valencia (Spain). Methods The questionnaire results indicate that 61% of respondents reported being involved in at least one case of sexting, with 24, 58, and 18% reporting having sent a sext, received a sext, and forwarded a sext, respectively. Results More males and older adolescents reported having received and forwarded sexts than female and younger adolescents. Conclusions Furthermore, time spent using Information and Communications Technology (ICT) devices, use and frequency of use of social media, grade repe…

2016

Abstract:KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDES TO SEXUAL ORIENTATION, RISK BEHAVIORS AND SEXUAL ABUSE IN WOMEN WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIESThe purpose of this study is to analyze of attitudes to sexuality expression, knowledge about safe and risk sex practices and sexual behavior in a sample of women with intellectual disabilities, to prevent sexual violence against this group. The sample consists of 39 women, aged between 27 and 52 years living in sheltered housing, residential homes or households. The results obtained through a structured interview and a scale of sexual perception adapted to the study population, indicate that the most common and acceptable behavior in women between 27 and 35 years is t…
