Background: Mercury is a ubiquitous heavy metal that may negatively affect human health. It is desirable to investigate mercury exposure in vulnerable populations. Objective: To determine the concentrations of total mercury (T-Hg) in cord blood and to evaluate the role of maternal fish consumption in a Spanish mother and child cohort. Purpose PET and SPECT voxel kinetics are highly noised. To our knowledge, no study has determined the effect of denoising on the ability to detect differences in binding at the voxel level using Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM). Methods In the present study, groups of subject-images with a 10%- and 20%- difference in binding of [123I]iomazenil (IMZ) were simulated. They were denoised with Factor Analysis (FA). Parametric images of binding potential (BPND) were produced with the simplified reference tissue model (SRTM) and the Logan non-invasive graphical analysis (LNIGA) and analyzed using SPM to detect group differences. Single photon emission tomography (SPECT) imaging of the central benzodiazepine receptor (BZr) became possible with the newly developed ligand 123I-IOMAZENIL. The BZr binding was investigated in ten patients with panic disorder (PP) compared to ten epileptic patients (EP). Panic patients had lower IOMAZENIL uptake rates in the frontal, occipital and temporal cortex than EP indicating the involvement of the BZr complex in panic disorder.

OBJECTIVE. The purpose of our study was to retrospectively evaluate the sonographic, CT, and MRI findings (number, diameter, lobar location, depth from the hepatic capsule, and appearance of lesions) in a series of nine patients with pathologically proven solitary necrotic nodules of the liver and the natural evolution at follow-up in four of the nine patients.CONCLUSION. Solitary necrotic nodules are usually small, solitary lesions, mainly located under the liver capsule of the right lobe. Balance of T1-weighted images before and after application of a paramagnetic substance (Gd-DTPA)

Ten patients with encephalitis disseminata and 10 patients with cerebral ischemia underwent computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging examinations. The results before and after the application of contrast media were compared. It is shown that T1-weighted MRI images, even after application of gadolinium-DTPA, are of little value for differential diagnosis of these diseases. In contrast, T2-weighted images did support the diagnosis of an acute stage of encephalitis disseminata versus acute ischemia. This was also true for lesions that had not been adequately depicted by computed tomography.

Renal insufficiency or allergic reactions for X-ray contrast agents are frequent limitations in immunocompromised hosts such as neutropenic or AIDS patients. Due to a better tolerance of contrast agents in MRI, this technique is well suited for investigation of parenchymal organs. We demonstrate an allergic AIDS patient who presented with fever and flank pain. At sonography, anechoic renal lesions were supposed to be non-complicated cysts; however, on T2-weighted MRI, the center was of high signal. The enzyme activity is regulated both at the intra- and extra-cellular level. Genetic contributions to restless legs syndrome (RLS) have been consistently recognized from population and family studies. To determine the clinical and genetic features of RLS in a population isolate and explore linkage to three previously described susceptibility loci on chromosomes 12q, 14q, and 9p, respectively, an isolated population in the South Tyrolean Alps was identified and 530 adults participated in the study.
