Linking structure and mechanical properties via instrumented nanoindentations on well-defined morphology poly(ethylene) Polymer 50 8 1939-1947 2009

2009

Several poly(ethylene) samples with a broad range of morphologies were studied in this work using nanoindentations. The samples had degrees of crystallinity ranging from 30 to100% while their Young’s modulus ranged from few tens of MPa up to several GPa. Experimental conditions for the correct evaluation of Young’s modulus were at first identified, choosing a suitable loading rate in order to minimize viscoelastic effects on the unloading. The force curves, i.e. plots of applied load vs. penetration depth, were then analyzed following two common procedures available in the literature. None of these procedures leads to satisfying results when compared to other experimental techniques. Howeve…

2017

This study explores the vocabulary used in Harry Potter and the Death- ly Hallows, with particular reference to the list of names for magic spells, charms and curses. The investigation aims at shedding light on how British writer J.K. Rowling has built the wizard’s world of Harry Potter and its linguistic universe. The aim of this survey is to emphasize recurring patterns and idiosyncrasies’ em- ployed in the construction of the magic form, which is based chiefly on neolo- gisms. The language the author has used for the creation of magic formulae is, in most cases, a kind of Latin, whose names are substantially recognizable to the reader.

Popkultūras neoloģismi ar biznesu saistītajā britu presē

2021

Cranio-Facial Characteristics in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)

2019

Background: Cranio-facial anomalies frequently occur in neurodevelopmental disorders because both face and brain are derived from neuroectoderm. The identification of differences in the facial phenotype of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) may reflect alterations in embryologic brain development in children with ASD. Methods: we evaluated 33 caucasian children with ASD using a 2D computerized photogrammetry. Anthropometric euclidean measurements and landmarks located on the soft tissue of the face and head, were based on five cranio-facial indexes. Relationships between anthropometric z-scores and participant characteristics (i.e., age, Global IQ, severity of autistic symptoms m…

Macroscytus raunoi, a new burrower bug species from Papua New Guinea (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Cydnidae: Cydninae)

2016

Abstract Macroscytus raunoi, a new species of the genus Macroscytus Fieber, 1860, is described from the Morobe Province on the northern coast of Papua New Guinea. The new species is similar in its morphological characters to Australian M. arnhemicus J. A. Lis, 1999. Differences in morphology and male genitalia which enable separation of both species are provided.

Choroidal thickness and morphology analysed by optical coherence tomography as a method to approach diabetic ocular disease prognosis and progression

2019
